{"id":24507,"date":"2025-08-26T14:52:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T14:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/24507\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T14:52:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T14:52:07","slug":"reform-uk-announces-plan-to-repeal-human-rights-laws-and-deport-all-asylum-seekers-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/24507\/","title":{"rendered":"Reform UK announces plan to repeal human rights laws and deport all asylum seekers \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The leader of Britain\u2019s anti-migration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/reform-uk\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/reform-uk\/\">Reform UK<\/a> party, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/nigel-farage\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/nigel-farage\/\">Nigel Farage<\/a>, announced a plan on Tuesday to repeal human rights laws to allow for mass deportations of asylum seekers and reverse what he called an \u201cinvasion\u201d that threatened national security.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mr Farage said his party, which is leading in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/uk-politics\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/uk-politics\/\">national opinion polls<\/a>, would remove Britain from the European Convention on Human Rights, repeal the Human Rights Act and disapply other international treaties that have been used to block the forced deportation of asylum seekers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe mood in the country around this issue is a mix between total despair and rising anger,\u201d Mr Farage said at a press conference. \u201cIt is an invasion, as these young men illegally break into our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The announcement comes against the backdrop of sustained, small-scale protests in recent weeks outside hotels housing asylum seekers, in response to concerns about public safety after some individuals were charged with sexual assault.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Opinion polls show that immigration has overtaken the economy as British voters\u2019 biggest concern.
