\n\tOona Chaplin<\/a> is the actor behind \u201cAvatar: Fire and Ash<\/a>\u201d villain Varang. She\u2019s also the granddaughter of film icon Charlie Chaplin<\/a>. Oona, whose credits also include \u201cGame of Thrones,\u201d recently told The Times of London<\/a> that she considered changing her name after graduating from Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and starting her pursuit of a full-time acting career.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s been a journey to feel deserving, because I know that doors have opened for me that potentially wouldn\u2019t have opened if I wasn\u2019t associated with this brilliant man,\u201d Oona Chaplin said. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely tricky to feel undeserving of the place you\u2019re in.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe decided against changing her name, however, because her mindset shifted \u201cfrom guilt to gratitude by working really hard and knowing that whatever I do is never going to compare to what my grandfather did. If all my purpose in this realm is for people to say, \u2018Oh, Charlie Chaplin\u2019s granddaughter\u2019, and they google him and watch a movie of his, then I\u2019m happy because he\u2019s such a genius.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOona\u2019s mother, Geraldine Chaplin, was Charlie\u2019s daughter and was also an actor in her own right. While \u201cAvatar: Fire and Ash\u201d marks Oona\u2019s first major Hollywood blockbuster film, she\u2019s been acting professionally since 2007. Her credits also include \u201cTaboo,\u201d \u201cThe Crimson Field\u201d and \u201cBlack Mirror.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor told The Times of London<\/a> that she believes Charlie Chaplin \u201cwould\u2019ve been on board\u201d with the \u201cAvatar\u201d movies, adding: \u201cI feel like James Cameron is probably one of the closest things that we have to Chaplin now, even though they\u2019re really different. They know what they\u2019re talking about, so people listen.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tCameron told IndieWire <\/a>during his latest \u201cAvatar\u201d press tour that he was originally \u201cseeing women whose names you would know instantly, who were already stars and people that I had really wanted to work with\u201d when he was casting the role of Varang. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was a hard decision to turn against faces and names that I already knew, but Oona surprised me with her perception of the character, her way of moving, and her utter fearlessness,\u201d he added about casting Chaplin. \u201cAnd she was well-prepared \u2014 she knew the scene cold, and it was seven or eight pages.\u201d<\/p>\n
