{"id":248076,"date":"2025-12-23T19:50:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T19:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/248076\/"},"modified":"2025-12-23T19:50:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T19:50:10","slug":"imf-praises-el-salvadors-4-gdp-growth-as-bitcoin-tensions-ease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/248076\/","title":{"rendered":"IMF praises El Salvador\u2019s 4% GDP growth as bitcoin tensions ease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The International Monetary Fund (IMF) praised El Salvador&#8217;s stronger-than-expected economic growth<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imf.org\/en\/news\/articles\/2025\/12\/22\/pr25440-el-salvador-imf-staff-statement-on-el-salvador\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> in a statement on Monday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The update notably did not include previous IMF suggestions that El Salvador would be putting on hold its strategy of accumulating bitcoin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/price\/bitcoin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BTC$87,686.99<\/a>, something that country \u2014 under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele \u2014 has continued to do since negotiating an IMF loan package several months ago.<\/p>\n<p>Diverting from its normal strategy of adding on bitcoin per day, El Salvador in November added more than 1,000 BTC to its national treasury strategy amid that month&#8217;s steep selloff. The <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoin.gob.sv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">government has now accumulated<\/a> nearly 7,500 BTC worth about $660 million at current prices.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF did note that negotiations for the sale of the government&#8217;s crypto wallet Chivo are &#8220;well advanced. &#8220;Discussions with regards to the Bitcoin project continue, centered on enhancing transparency, safeguarding public resources, and mitigating risks,&#8221; the agency added.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF said El Salvador\u2019s economy is expanding at a faster than anticipated pace on the back of improved confidence, record remittances, and buoyant investment. Real GDP growth is projected to reach around 4% and the 2026 outlook is \u201cvery good\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In March, El Salvador reached <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2025\/05\/27\/imf-says-efforts-will-continue-to-ensure-el-salvador-doesn-t-accumulate-more-btc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an agreement with the IMF<\/a> to receive a $3.5 billion loan package.\u201cClose engagement with the Salvadoran authorities is expected to continue in the period ahead with the objective of reaching a staff level agreement on all policies and reforms needed to complete the second review of the EFF program,\u201d the IMF said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The International Monetary Fund (IMF) praised El Salvador&#8217;s stronger-than-expected economic growth in a statement on Monday.
