Cork City FC have announced that manager Ger Nash has resigned from his role with immediate effect.<\/p>\n
The Kildare native took charge midway through the 2025 season following the departure of Tim Clancy, stepping into the role as City attempted to combat a familiar slide towards the foot of the Premier Division table.<\/p>\n
The club have said that Nash\u2019s decision was made for personal reasons, and that the search for a new manager will commence immediately.<\/p>\n
The 2025 campaign ultimately became yet another chapter in Cork City\u2019s recent cycle of instability.<\/p>\n
Relegation was confirmed before season\u2019s end, and, marked a third drop from the top flight since 2020. It\u2019s done little but reinforce the unwanted tag Cork City have as the League of Ireland\u2019s \u2018yo-yo\u2019 club. Promotion has followed relegation before, but sustaining top-flight status has continued to prove elusive for City.<\/p>\n
Nash\u2019s tenure did, however, include one notable highlight.<\/p>\n
City reached the FAI Cup final for the first time since 2017, the only injection of hope in a season where the club only managed four Premier Division wins in 36 attempts.<\/p>\n
Just two of those victories arrived under Nash.<\/p>\n
Wins against Waterford at home and Finn Harps away got their FAI Cup campaign rolling, and a huge 3-0 victory posted at home to St Pat\u2019s was a badly needed lift for the club and fans.<\/p>\n
It booked a trip to the Aviva where they faced double chasing Shamrock Rovers, but, after Harry Nevin was sent off at the tail end of the first half, a second-half brace from Rory Gaffney took City\u2019s season from bad to worse, as they lost 2-0.<\/p>\n
Across the Premier Division campaign, performances were often competitive, but, as always, lacked consistency.<\/p>\n
City frequently stayed in games, but were unable to turn pressure into points. It\u2019s a problem that has recurred across multiple campaigns.
