{"id":248978,"date":"2025-12-24T08:37:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T08:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/248978\/"},"modified":"2025-12-24T08:37:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T08:37:13","slug":"people-urged-to-check-in-on-older-neighbours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/248978\/","title":{"rendered":"People urged to check in on older neighbours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The national charity, Alone, is appealing to people to check in on their older neighbours over Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation says Ireland&#8217;s ageing population is driving unprecedented demand for its services and supports.<\/p>\n<p>Alone&#8217;s staff have made more than 20,000 calls to older people ahead of Christmas to provide whatever supports they need.<\/p>\n<p>Its volunteers will deliver close to 2,000 dinners around the country on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n<p>Alone says demand for its services continues to grow annually, particularly among the 30% of older people in Ireland who live alone.<\/p>\n<p>Alone Chief Executive Se\u00e1n Moynihan said that with many services shut down or not available over the Christmas, it can be a hazardous time for older people.<\/p>\n<p>He is appealing to people to check in on their neighbours, reach out, offer support, and not to assume someone else has done it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The national charity, Alone, is appealing to people to check in on their older neighbours over Christmas.
