Five animals – two lions and three bears – were found abandoned in cages when Thai marines inspected a captured casino building immediately across the border from Trat province.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thai wildlife<\/a> officials<\/a> were rescuing the animals.<\/p>\n

Trat Marine Task Force soldiers inspected the now deserted casino<\/a> building on the Cambodian side of the border, opposite Ban Tha Sen.<\/p>\n

They found a pair of lions, two Asiatic black bears and one sun bear. All were locked in cages<\/a> and were severely emaciated<\/a> due to lack of food for a long time, the task force reported.<\/p>\n

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation sent a veterinary<\/a> team to the site on Monday to assess the animals\u2019 condition<\/a> and arrange for their immediate relocation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The move was made difficult by the animals’ weak condition<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The rescue<\/a> operation was continuing on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
