Fans got a glimpse at the unique tradition in a\u00a0December 23 Instagram Reel<\/a>, in which Boz\u2019s 16-year-old girl,\u00a0Lael Saint John<\/a>, revealed her 2025 holiday wish list.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cShe doesn\u2019t ask. She PITCHES,\u201d The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills<\/a>\u00a0mom captioned the post. \u201cShe\u2019s been doing this since she was three years old. Yes, I\u2019m in the position [to] give her a lot\u2026 but I want her to understand VALUE.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bozoma Saint John’s daughter, Lael, pitches her holiday wish list<\/p>\n

Boz said the exercise promoted mindful consumption, as it forced Lael to really think about why she wanted a particular item, how she intended to use it, and whether the product would still matter in the next three months.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo she makes a case. A real one,\u201d Boz continued. \u201cAnd no\u2026 I don\u2019t go easy on her. I treat her exactly like I would anyone presenting to me in a boardroom. Weak logic gets challenged. Flimsy arguments get torn apart. Convince me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lael Saint John makes a case for her top 2 Christmas gift requests<\/p>\n

As seen in the video, Lael\u2019s 2025 list had only two items, both of which fit into the category of \u201cschool.\u201d First on the list was an iPad.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the social media manager of my [school\u2019s] Black Student Union, my job is to take pictures during our meetings,\u201d Lael began. \u201cI can also use this to study, and it’s also cheaper\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCheaper than what?\u201d Boz interjected.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCheaper than printing out my paper. It\u2019s also better for the environment,\u201d Lael responded.<\/p>\n

Boz\u2019s sister, Ahoba Arthur, and mom, Aba Enim, also attended the presentation. The former repeatedly applauded and cosigned Lael\u2019s arguments, while the latter quietly watched on.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Item No. 2 was a new MacBook. Lael told her mom that her current laptop was five years old, and a new model would have better graphics, faster speed, and more bandwidth. The teen also said the new computer would make her college application process much easier.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for watching and playing,\u201d Lael concluded.<\/p>\n

Bozoma Saint John says her daughter’s persuasion skills have improved<\/p>\n

Boz admitted that the presentation was solid.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cLawdhavmercy. She\u2019s gotten much better over the years,\u201d the Beverly Hills mom wrote. \u201cMeanwhile, my sister is in the background doing what she does best\u2026supporting, affirming, and being entirely too soft. She represents all the internet aunties and uncles who think Lael already won before the pitch even started. And my mom knows that she\u2019s not supposed to say anything. Why Bozoma Saint John makes Lael argue for the things she wants<\/p>\n

The wish list presentation was similar to Lael\u2019s annual trip pitches. Every year, Boz treats her daughter to a birthday getaway of her choice; however, Lael must deliver a presentation explaining why she chose the destination.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Boz defended the tradition in a recent interview with\u00a0TODAY<\/a>, insisting her daughter understands the method.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no \u2018just because I want it,\u2019\u201d Boz said. \u201cShe had to have good rationale of why she wanted the thing she wanted. It feels very natural to her because she\u2019s been doing this for so long. It\u2019s not new to her. You don’t want to go through life just collecting stuff. You want to think about the long-term.”<\/p>\n
