{"id":252556,"date":"2025-12-26T15:51:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T15:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/252556\/"},"modified":"2025-12-26T15:51:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T15:51:07","slug":"man-who-died-in-christmas-day-e-scooter-crash-named-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/252556\/","title":{"rendered":"Man who died in Christmas Day e-scooter crash named \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A man who died when his e-scooter was in collision with a car in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/waterford\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/waterford\/\">Waterford<\/a> city on Christmas Day has been named locally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Alan Walsh, aged in his 40s from St John\u2019s Park, Waterford city, was driving an e-scooter when the collision occurred at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker\u2019s Hill) and Hennessy\u2019s Road at around 11am on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mr Walsh, a father of two, was taken to University Hospital Waterford, where he was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The driver of the car, a man aged in his 80s, was also brought to University Hospital Waterford with injuries believed to be non life-threatening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">No other injuries were reported by garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mr Walsh, who worked in O\u2019Sullivan\u2019s Bar and Restaurant, is survived by his son Sean and daughter Ava. He will be \u201csadly missed by his heartbroken\u201d mum Esther, dad Tommy, brothers Thomas and Mark, sisters Lorraine, Karen and Sarah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, relatives, neighbours and friends, <a href=\"https:\/\/rip.ie\/death-notice\/alan-walsh-waterford-waterford-city-615721\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/rip.ie\/death-notice\/alan-walsh-waterford-waterford-city-615721\">his death notice<\/a> read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">His remains will repose at Thompson\u2019s Funeral Home, Barrack St, Waterford on Saturday January 3rd, followed by removal to the Sacred Heart Church, The Folly for Mass at 2.00pm with burial afterwards in St Otteran\u2019s Cemetery, Ballinaneeshagh, Cork Road, Waterford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In lieu of flowers members of the public are asked to donate if desired to Waterford Animal Welfare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">One mourner said: \u201cHaving grown up next door to him, I\u2019ll always remember the laughs we had. Thinking of you all during this incredibly difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The road was closed for several hours to allow forensic collision investigators to carry out a technical examination of the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda\u00ed have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
