{"id":253182,"date":"2025-12-27T00:23:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-27T00:23:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/253182\/"},"modified":"2025-12-27T00:23:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-27T00:23:10","slug":"belfasts-first-fleadh-cheoil-expecting-700000-visitors-and-impact-on-par-with-open-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/253182\/","title":{"rendered":"Belfast\u2019s first Fleadh Cheoil expecting 700,000 visitors and impact on par with Open \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Hosting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/fleadh-cheoil-na-heireann\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/fleadh-cheoil-na-heireann\/\">Fleadh Cheoil<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/belfast\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/belfast\/\">Belfast<\/a> for the first time will create a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tourism\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tourism\/\">tourism<\/a> legacy similar to that delivered by staging golf\u2019s Open Championship on the north coast, a tourism chief has predicted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">More than 700,000 people are set to visit the city in early August when the world\u2019s biggest Irish music and culture festival and competition is held across eight days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It will only be the second occasion Fleadh Cheoil na h\u00c9ireann has been staged north of the Border, with Derry hosting the annual celebration in 2013.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Tourism NI\u2019s director of events Aine Kearney said the Fleadh should deliver a significant boost to cross-Border visitor numbers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cWe\u2019ve seen the Fleadh Cheoil\u2019s attendance grow year on year and there\u2019s no shortage of aspirations in terms of what that\u2019s going to look like when it\u2019s hosted in Belfast in August 2026,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cWe\u2019re expecting at least 700,000 visitors, and the economic impact is in and around \u00a360 million (\u20ac69 million). And that probably is quite conservative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIt\u2019s really important for us because it provides an opportunity for us to provide a reason for people from the South to come north. Maybe for many of them, that might be the first time.
