She has black framed glasses and auburn hair.\" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 hLdNfA\"\/>Yui Mok\/PA Wire<\/p>\n<p>Patients are advised to rest if they succumb to flu and avoid spreading it<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Flu can be &#8220;seriously bad news&#8221; for the vulnerable and can see them hospitalised, a Jersey GP has said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Dr Ed Klaber, from Health Plus Jersey, said most people &#8220;feel a bit rotten&#8221; with flu and advised patients to get rest and manage their symptoms, while others with lung problems could become &#8220;quite unwell&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">He said the<a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c04qg7pw6v9o\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 iCaRzc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> flu vaccine<\/a> &#8220;will protect us and family members and that&#8217;s got to be a good thing&#8221; adding it was up to individuals to made up their own minds whether to have it or not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Dr Klaber said there had been &#8220;vaccine fatigue&#8221; after the Covid-19 pandemic years but GPs were encouraging patients to get vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Last year in the island, 30,900 people had the flu vaccine, but a further 11,500 doses were <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c8670qz2lzno\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 iCaRzc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">thrown away<\/a> because people did not come forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Dr Klaber advised islanders to have paracetamol and ibuprofen in their medicine cabinet in case flu struck.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Another tip was to make hot squash with soluble paracetamol, or use throat sprays if anyone was suffering from a really sore throat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">If people succumbed to flu, the &#8220;main thing is to take it easy&#8221;, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Offering more health tips for the new year, Dr Klaber also advised people not to compare themselves to others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">He said people tended to compare the good and bad aspects of themselves with others but &#8220;the bit we see of other people is the bit they show us&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Instead he suggested people being kind to themselves, setting realistic expectations and giving themselves &#8220;credit when we deserve it&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">He said: &#8220;The criticism you give yourself you would never give anyone else you care about.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">&#8220;January might be hard, there are going to be days when it is dark and raining and work feels a bind, the sun&#8217;s a long way away; but one day at a time and we&#8217;ll get through it.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Julia GregoryChannel Islands Yui Mok\/PA Wire Patients are advised to rest if they succumb to flu and avoid&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":255588,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[78],"tags":[18,135,19,17],"class_list":{"0":"post-255587","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-health","8":"tag-eire","9":"tag-health","10":"tag-ie","11":"tag-ireland"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@ie\/115797182086343817","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/255587","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=255587"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/255587\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/255588"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=255587"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=255587"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=255587"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
