The \u201crabid chimp\u201d horror film\u00a0Primate\u00a0is set to reach theatres on\u00a0January 9, 2026<\/strong>, courtesy of Paramount Pictures \u2013 and just one week out from that date, the Motion Picture Association ratings board has announced<\/a> that the film has earned an R<\/strong> rating for strong bloody violent content, gore, language, and some drug use<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Cast and Synopsis<\/p>\n

At the helm of\u00a0Primate\u00a0is genre regular\u00a0Johannes Roberts<\/a>, who has previously directed\u00a0Hellbreeder, Darkhunters, Forest of the Damned, F, Roadkill, Storage 24, The Other Side of the Door, 47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged,\u00a0and\u00a0Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. He also contributed a segment to the horror anthology\u00a0V\/H\/S\/99. Roberts has written the\u00a0Primate\u00a0screenplay with his frequent collaborator Ernest Riera. In this one,\u00a0a group of friends\u2019 tropical vacation turns into a terrifying, primal tale of horror and survival.<\/p>\n

Oscar-winner Troy Kotsur (CODA) stars alongside Johnny Sequoyah (Dexter: New Blood), Jessica Alexander\u00a0(Amadeus),\u00a0Victoria Wyant\u00a0(My Fault: London),\u00a0Benjamin Cheng (d\u2019ILLUSION: The Houdini Musical),\u00a0Gia Hunter\u00a0<\/strong>(Sherlock and Daughter),\u00a0Miguel Torres Umba\u00a0(National Theatre co-production\u00a0Kin),\u00a0Kae Alexander\u00a0(Ready Player One),\u00a0Tienne Simon\u00a0<\/strong>(Grime Kids),\u00a0Charlie Mann\u00a0<\/strong>(Lazarus),\u00a0newcomer Amina Abdi,\u00a0and\u00a0Albert Magashi\u00a0(National Theatre Live: Dear England).<\/p>\n

A while back, former DC Films boss Walter Hamada signed a first-look deal with Paramount Pictures, the idea being that he would become, as Deadline put it, \u201cthe architect of Paramount\u2019s mainstream horror genre pod, with the mission to release several low- to mid-budget films per year across theatrical and streaming.\u201d\u00a0Primate\u00a0is part of Hamada\u2019s horror-minded efforts at Paramount, and he is producing the film through his 18hz production company alongside John Hodges and Bradley Pilz. Roberts serves as an executive producer with Vicki Dee Rock, Nathan Samdahl, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary.<\/p>\n

Bloodbath of Fun<\/p>\n
