Ruben Amorim winning just seven of his 29 Premier League matches in charge of Manchester United is a ‘disgusting’ effort.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That’s according to talkSPORT’s Andy Goldstein<\/a>, who also expressed his strict opposition towards the potential sale of Kobbie Mainoo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

United<\/a>, who finished 15th last season, have gone winless in the first two Premier League fixtures of the 2025\/26 campaign.<\/p>\n

A 1-0 defeat to Arsenal was followed by their 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday, with both matches highlighting their ongoing issues.<\/p>\n

Head coach Amorim<\/a> continues to struggle in the dugout and face the pressure that comes with such a prestigious job in world football.<\/p>\n

And on talkSPORT Drive, Goldstein vented his frustrations with the current situation surrounding his beloved United.<\/p>\n

“To win seven Premier League games is nowhere near good enough,” said Darren Bent, and Goldstein added: “It’s disgusting, it’s disgusting. <\/p>\n

“We’ve spent close to \u00a3200millon, we’ve got a strike force… One of our problems last season was lack of goals, although I did think our problems were everywhere on the pitch, not just a lack of goals. Defensively, I think we looked shambolic.”<\/p>\n

Goldstein then began a furious rant, which detailed his concerns with Mainoo potentially leaving the club<\/a> if a suitable offer is made.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know where I’m going to start, but I’ll start with, in no particular order, formations. Three at the back is not working, I don’t think it’s ever going to work for Man United. <\/p>\n

“And he [Amorim] can claim he hasn’t got the players, but he’s had windows to get players in. He bought two no.10’s, we had Bruno Fernandes, we had a no. 10, we didn’t need two more.<\/p>\n

“I understand that if you want to play in a style where you’re getting rid of [Alejandro] Garnacho [to Chelsea<\/a>] and you’re getting rid of [Marcus] Rashford [on loan at Barcelona<\/a>], maybe these two players can replace them, I get that, I understand it.<\/p>\n

Amorim has won just 24 per cent of his Premier League matches<\/p>\n

“But the problems for Man United were not scoring goals, but also defensively, right? We haven’t sorted out the goalkeeper, [Andre] Onana looks like he’s our second choice now. <\/p>\n

“I don’t know if we’re doing this deal to bring in this young Belgian kid [Senne Lammens] coming in<\/a>, but I don’t know if he’s the answer. All of a sudden, you bring a young kid in and it’s his job, his responsibility to stop conceding goals… It’s massive. <\/p>\n

“And you’ve got someone like [Gianluigi] Donnarumma, apparently he’s in talks with Man City… I think, I was talking to Anil in there, he’s a Man United fan, we were chatting earlier on, we were both crying on each other’s shoulders. <\/p>\n

“But we were talking about the squad that we’ve got and the players we’ve got, and we’ve got a team that can play 4-3-3, we’ve got that team. The three in the middle of the park would be Kobbie Mainoo…<\/p>\n

“If Kobbie Mainoo is allowed to leave Manchester United, everyone needs to look at themselves, that would be disgusting to let a young kid who played for England in the final of the Euros, let’s not forget that, looked fantastic… <\/p>\n

“We did a show before the Euros and the question was, ‘Who is England’s important player?’ And I said Kobbie Mainoo, and people laughed at me. Through that Euros campaign, it looked like I was right… He was an important part of England.<\/p>\n

“Now he’s not getting a look-in and that means he wants to leave, supposedly. If we let him go, it’d be a travesty. If you play 4-3-3, the three would be Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro just protecting, with Bruno playing that role [in front]. <\/p>\n

“And then your three at the front could be Sesko down the middle, Mbeumo one side and Cunha on the other, playing as a wide three. You’ve got players like Mbeumo, more so Mbeumo but Cunha… They can’t play tight.”<\/p>\n

Goldstein then added: “We’ve got the players there that will look better in four at the back, they’ll look more comfortable. I like [Matthijs] De Ligt, he had a poor game at the weekend, but I like him.<\/p>\n

“You could play him and Lenny Yoro, looks good, made a couple of good challenges. You could play them two at centre-half, Luke Shaw at left-back and Diogo Dalot, right-back. <\/p>\n

“Now I’m not saying, ‘Wow! That team’s good enough to win…’, but that team… Structure is there, much more comfortable.<\/p>\n

“And I don’t understand why, and I’ve said this before, if you’re that good a manager, you look at the tools you’ve got, you look at results that are coming in. And you know it’s not working, it’s not working, change it.”<\/p>\n

League Two side Grimsby Town will welcome United on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup second round, live on talkSPORT<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Amorim and co. then return to Old Trafford on Saturday for the visit of Burnley, who are 11th and above them in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

After the September international break, United will face Manchester City and Chelsea in back-to-back league clashes.<\/p>\n
