{"id":259248,"date":"2025-12-31T04:31:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T04:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/259248\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T04:31:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T04:31:09","slug":"nfl-star-stefon-diggs-faces-strangulation-charges-denies-allegations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/259248\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL star Stefon Diggs faces strangulation charges, denies allegations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NFL star Stefon Diggs is facing strangulation and other criminal charges in connection with a dispute with his former private chef, police said.<\/p>\n<p>News of the charges emerged after a court hearing on Tuesday in Dedham, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>New England Patriots wide receiver Diggs is charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanour assault and battery.<\/p>\n<p>Diggs\u2019 lawyer, David Meier, said in an emailed statement that the NFL player \u201ccategorically denies these allegations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Meier said the allegations never occurred, describing them as unsubstantiated and uncorroborated. For other uses, additional clearances may be required.\"\/>Stefon Diggs has established himself as one of the NFL\u2019s best wide receivers (Nick Wass\/AP)\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee\u2019s satisfaction,\u201d Mr Meier wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the Patriots said they were also standing by Diggs. \u201cWe support Stefon,\u201d the team said.<\/p>\n<p>A police narrative in a court filing about the case said a woman came to the Dedham Police Department on December 16 to say that two weeks earlier, while working as a private chef for Diggs, he came into her bedroom and became angry during a discussion about money.<\/p>\n<p>The woman told police that Diggs \u201csmacked her across the face\u201d, and that she tried to push him away and then he \u201ctried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe said that he was behind her with his arm wrapped around her,\u201d wrote officer Kenneth J Ellis. \u201cShe said that she did feel like she had trouble breathing and that she felt like she could have blacked out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Diggs threw her on a bed and said \u201clies\u201d when she told him she had not been paid, Mr Ellis wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The chef sought payment for a week in November when Diggs was having house guests and she had to go home, Mr Ellis wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The woman \u201cleft her position\u201d and the home in Dedham but returned on December 9 to retrieve her property. At that point, she told police, Diggs referred her to his assistant, who told the woman she had to sign a non-disclosure agreement before she would be paid.
