{"id":259658,"date":"2025-12-31T10:35:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T10:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/259658\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T10:35:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T10:35:10","slug":"eurostar-services-to-resume-as-passengers-advised-to-postpone-their-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/259658\/","title":{"rendered":"Eurostar services to resume as passengers advised to postpone their journey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Eurostar services<\/strong> are expected to <strong>resume<\/strong> later on Tuesday after an earlier power failure saw the Channel Tunnel closed.<\/p>\n<p>The passenger rail operator previously said all of its London to Europe services for the day were cancelled, but it later said trains would resume after the tunnel was partially reopened.<\/p>\n<p>However it urged customers to rebook travel for a different date and not to come to London St Pancras station if their train\u2019s cancellation was confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>A problem with the overhead power supply and a failed LeShuttle train blocked all routes earlier on Tuesday, causing travel chaos for thousands trying to get away to celebrate the new year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"480\" width=\"640\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/eurostar-services-to-resume-as-passengers-advised-to-postpone-their-journey.jpg\" alt=\"Eurostar train information screen displaying cancellations\" data-title=\"Eurostar delays\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Wire\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Wire\/PA Images\" data-credit=\"Jonathan Brady\" data-usage-terms=\"\"\/>Earlier, Eurostar said all services were cancelled for the day (Jonathan Brady\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Eurostar said: \u201cAs the Channel Tunnel has partially reopened we will start to resume services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe overhead power supply issue remains, and we strongly advise all our passengers to postpone their journey to a different date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease don\u2019t come to the station if your train is confirmed as cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe regret that trains that can run will be subject to severe delays and possible last-minute cancellations.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"480\" width=\"640\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1767177309_230_eurostar-services-to-resume-as-passengers-advised-to-postpone-their-journey.jpg\" alt=\"Delayed passengers at St Pancras train station, central London, after all Eurostar services were cancelled\" data-title=\"Eurostar delays\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Wire\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Wire\/PA Images\" data-credit=\"Jonathan Brady\" data-usage-terms=\"\"\/>Delayed passengers at St Pancras train station, central London, after all Eurostar services were cancelled (Jonathan Brady\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease check for live updates on the status of your train on the train status and timetables page.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LeShuttle is also affected, but the operator said earlier on Tuesday its services between Folkestone and Calais were resuming while warning of six-hour delays at the Folkestone terminal.<\/p>\n<p>The Channel Tunnel accommodates Eurostar services as well as LeShuttle vehicle-carrying trains between the UK and France.<\/p>\n<p>In an update on Tuesday afternoon, Getlink, which operates the Channel Tunnel, said services were expected to resume gradually for LeShuttle passengers from around 2pm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn incident related to the power supply to trains occurred last night in part of the Channel Tunnel, affecting train and shuttle traffic,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"961\" width=\"640\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1767177310_442_eurostar-services-to-resume-as-passengers-advised-to-postpone-their-journey.jpg\" alt=\"Cars queuing on a road\" data-title=\"Eurostar delays\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Wire\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Wire\/PA Images\" data-credit=\"Gareth Fuller\" data-usage-terms=\"\"\/>The problem caused long queues of vehicles waiting for LeShuttle services (Gareth Fuller\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA technical intervention is required, which is currently under way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe service is temporarily suspended in both directions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur teams are working to restore the situation as quickly as possible. Waiting times will be adjusted throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEurotunnel apologises for the inconvenience and thanks its customers for their patience and understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Eurostar staff member at St Pancras station in central London told passengers earlier all trains were cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, nothing at all,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Another member of staff was seen handing out water bottles to people waiting by a cordon.<\/p>\n<p>Cars hoping to cross the Eurotunnel caused traffic jams on the approach to the Folkestone terminal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"360\" width=\"640\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1767177310_175_eurostar-services-to-resume-as-passengers-advised-to-postpone-their-journey.jpg\" alt=\"Eurostar delays\" data-title=\"Eurostar delays\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Media\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Media\" data-credit=\"Dean Pallant\" data-usage-terms=\"PICTURE DESK USE ONLY. NO SALES.\"\/>LeShuttle passengers were forced to wait at the Folkstone terminal at the Channel Tunnel (Dean Pallant\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>LeShuttle passenger Tim Brown said he had been stuck in his car on the train at the Calais terminal for more than three hours with \u201cno access to food or water\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Brown, who is trying to get back to the UK after spending Christmas in Germany, is travelling with his dogs Rilo and Vinnie who he said are \u201chating life\u201d stuck on the train.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that nobody has come around offering everybody a bottle of water is what has shocked me the most,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know things happen, but surely that would be an easy way to help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A man travelling to Paris for New Year\u2019s Eve with his partner said \u201cwe\u2019ll have to put romance on hold\u201d, after their Eurostar train was cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>John Paul, from Peterborough, was bought the trip as a surprise Christmas present from his partner Lucy and said they had spent five hours on a Paris-bound train before it unexpectedly returned to London.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"480\" width=\"640\" Pancras, the 46-year-old said: \u201cWe left on the seven o\u2019clock train this morning, we were sat on the train for about an hour, I think, waiting to leave from here, and then we got probably about an hour down the track, maybe 40 minutes, and then they basically said the train\u2019s got to stop because the train ahead got a braking issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey kept telling us that the driver was trying to fix the brakes on this other train and that the other trains were then backed up and that was basically the same story that we were told all the way through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the thing is, at the minute there\u2019s no clear information and obviously we\u2019ve lost a lot of money, haven\u2019t we?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Paul said they had a river cruise in Paris and the Eiffel Tower booked for Tuesday evening, adding: \u201cWe\u2019ll have to put romance on hold for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the Department for Transport said on Tuesday afternoon: \u201cEurotunnel is working with operators to resume some services while repairs to overhead electrical cables in the Channel Tunnel are ongoing, however significant disruption is likely for the remainder of the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working with Eurotunnel, Eurostar and the Kent and Medway Resilience Forum to minimise disruption for passengers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPassengers are encouraged
