A driver attempted to evade a Garda checkpoint in Tipperary this week – only for stunned officers to find that the driver was both pregnant and using cocaine.<\/strong><\/p>\n Garda\u00ed were conducting a Mandatory Intoxicant Checkpoint in North Tipperary when they spotted the vehicle trying to avoid them. Officers from Killaloe Garda Station spoke to the pregnant female driver while the Garda Mobility App revealed that the car was uninsured.<\/p>\n The driver was the tested at the roadside for alcohol and drugs – with the test giving a positive indication for Cocaine. The pregnant driver was arrested and processed at Nenagh Garda Station, while officers wait for the the results of a blood sample. The driver’s car was also seized.<\/p>\n The “game-changing” Garda Mobility App was rolled out across the country<\/a> in 2024, allowing officers to access an instant and comprehensive database of all vehicles and all drivers – including offences and status of licence – on their phones. The recent introduction of the Driver Number System<\/a>, which allows Gardai on patrol and manning checkpoints to instantly access the history of individual motorists, has added to the pressure being put on dangerous, uninsured and banned motorists<\/a> who flout the law.<\/p>\n All drug driving offences carry a period of disqualification. The maximum penalty for all drug driving offences is a \u20ac5,000 fine and up to six months imprisonment on summary conviction.
