Let\u2019s take a
\nlook back at some of the biggest moments of the year for the Danish
\nRoyal Family!<\/p>\n

KING FREDERIK PROTECTS GREENLAND<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perhaps the biggest story out of the Danish Royal Family\u2019s
\nsphere this year: the baffling interest of the US government in
\nacquiring
\nGreenland<\/a>. Though it\u2019s an autonomous country, it\u2019s still a part
\nof the kingdom of Denmark.<\/p>\n

King Frederik paid special visits to the country and
\nshared his support for Greenland<\/a> amidst the ongoing political
\nevent.
\nIn a sharp statement<\/a> on Danish television in March, the King
\nsaid \u201cWe live in an altered reality.\u201d And as Prince
\nVincent and Princess Josephine celebrated their 14th
\nbirthdays,
\ntheir Greenlandic middle names came into the spotlight.<\/a><\/p>\n

PRINCESS ISABELLA TURNS 18<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nPrincess Isabella turned 18 on 21 April<\/a> and was celebrated with
\ntwo events in Aarhus and Copenhagen. At Aarhus City Hall,
\nshe joined 150 young people<\/a> for an event celebrating the arts
\nand culture of the city. In a speech, she said: \u201cThe fact that
\nyou have chosen to celebrate me, and that so many have come
\ntogether, makes me happy and touched. You should know that it means
\na lot to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next event,
\na gala performance at the Royal Theatre<\/a>, saw a mixture of
\nopera, classical music, Broadway showtunes, and modern pop, with
\nPrincess Isabella in black-tie formal.<\/p>\n

As a birthday gift, Princess Isabella
\nreceived a tiara from her grandmother Queen Margrethe<\/a>. The turquoise and aquamarine tiara<\/a> once belonged
\nto Crown Princess Margretha of Sweden, who handed it down to her
\ndaughter Ingrid upon her confirmation. Princess Ingrid married
\nCrown Prince Frederick in 1935, later becoming queen consort of
\nDenmark upon his accession. Queen Ingrid was the great-grandmother
\nof Princess Isabella.<\/p>\n

Princess Isabella posed for her first official gala portraits
\nwearing the tiara.<\/p>\n

QUEEN MARY\u2019S SPECIAL STYLE STATEMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Finland at the start of the year,
\nQueen Mary stole the show<\/a> with a 200-year-old gold tiara that
\nonce belonged to Queen Caroline Amalie. The stones, gathered during
\na trip on the Grand Tour of Italy, date back to between 1819 and
\n1821. Queen Mary\u2019s bracelet was made for Princess Vilhelmine Marie
\nand featured stones from Mount Vesuvius.<\/p>\n

Later in the year, as she and King Frederik travelled to the
\nFaroe Islands, it was revealed that her national costume dates back
\nto 2005, to her
\nfirst official visit to the area after her marriage.<\/a><\/p>\n

CROWN PRINCE CHRISTIAN ENLISTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Crown Prince Christian followed in the footsteps of his fellow
\nheirs and enlisted in the Danish military,
\nbeginning training with the Hussar Guards<\/a> in Slagelse in
\nFebruary.
\nAfter a visit from the family<\/a> the next month, it was deep into
\ntraining,
\nwhich he completed in August<\/a>. The Danish Royal Court announced
\nthat Crown Prince Christian would immediately begin lieutenancy
\ntraining, which will run through August 2026 and include a period
\nof platoon service afterwards.<\/p>\n

Some other highlights of the year? Crown Prince Christian
\n
\nattended his first New Year\u2019s levee<\/a>. He also flew over Denmark
\nand made
\na childhood dream come true!<\/a> There was also a bit of
\nsibling rivalry<\/a>, but all in good fun, of course. \u00a0<\/p>\n

QUEEN MARGRETHE TURNS 85<\/strong><\/p>\n

Queen Margrethe quietly celebrated her
\n85th birthday<\/a> in April (it\u2019s
\na popular birthdate for royals!<\/a>) but she still
\nkept active<\/a>
\nthroughout<\/a>
\nthe year.<\/a><\/p>\n

PRINCE JOACHIM MAKES A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThough they turned up in Denmark<\/a> to mark New Year\u2019s Day and
\nattend the levees, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie were soon back
\nin the United States to carry out their duties while he serves as
\nDefense Industry Attach\u00e9 and Deputy Defence Attach\u00e9 in
\nWashington.<\/p>\n

Among the events they attended in this capacity:
\nthe Invictus Games in Whistler, British Columbia<\/a>. Princess
\nMarie, meanwhile,
\npopped up in Denmark<\/a> to carry out engagements towards the end
\nof the year.<\/p>\n

Over the summer, it was announced that Prince Joachim and
\nPrincess Marie will extend their stay through August 2027.
\nThe couple spent Christmas<\/a>, with their children, in Washington
\nas well.<\/p>\n

QUEEN MARY THE WORLD TRAVELLER<\/strong><\/p>\n

Not including the state visits to Finland (with her ancient
\njewellery), France (with her French style) and Latvia (where
\nshe topped the best-dressed list<\/a>), Queen Mary had her own
\nagenda when it came to travelling for work.<\/p>\n

In June, she travelled to Nigeria to see the work of the
\ngovernment\u2019s Africa Strategy and the bilateral work both countries
\nare undertaking. In November,
\nshe travelled to Egypt<\/a> to attend the opening of the Great
\nEgyptian Museum and took unforgettable photos at the Great Pyramids
\nof Giza. In early December, she
\ntravelled to Kenya<\/a> for the United Nations\u2019 Environment
\nProgramme and spoke of tackling climate change.<\/p>\n
