{"id":262607,"date":"2026-01-02T01:42:19","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T01:42:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/262607\/"},"modified":"2026-01-02T01:42:19","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T01:42:19","slug":"nj-health-officials-warn-of-measles-exposure-at-newark-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/262607\/","title":{"rendered":"NJ health officials warn of measles exposure at Newark airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Jersey health officials are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/health\/news\/2025\/approved\/20251226a.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">warning of a measles exposure<\/a> at Newark Liberty International Airport that occurred during peak holiday travel time.<\/p>\n<p>A traveler <a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/post\/newark-liberty-international-airport-passenger-may-have-exposed-others-measles-nj-health-department-says\/18332830\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">diagnosed with the illness<\/a> was at the airport on December 12, the New Jersey Department of Health said in an updated press release this week. Officials said this person, who is not a resident of New Jersey, spent the day at Terminals B and C but could not provide their exact whereabouts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeasles symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose, watery red eyes, and a rash that usually appears between three and five days after symptoms begin,\u201d according to release. \u201cThe rash usually begins as flat red spots that appear on the face at the hairline and spread downward to the neck, torso, arms, legs and feet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The virus, which is airborne, is also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/measles\/signs-symptoms\/index.html#:~:text=7%E2%80%9314%20days%20after%20a,Keep%20Reading%20Photos%20of%20Measles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">highly contagious.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Health officials urged anyone who was in the same terminals between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/measles-newark-airport-december-exposure-infectious-11877014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">be on the lookout for symptoms.<\/a> They also warned that those who are not vaccinated face a significantly more serious risk, as do babies and young children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNJDOH encourages all residents to stay up to date on routine vaccinations, including MMR shots,\u201d the statement said. \u201cAnyone traveling internationally should be fully vaccinated before traveling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Potentially exposed individuals, if infected, could develop symptoms as late as January 2, 2026, according to health officials.<\/p>\n<p>The possible exposure comes as measles cases nationwide hit their highest levels in decades, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/measles\/data-research\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">with 2,012 cases diagnosed in 2025<\/a> as of Dec. 23, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
