George Clooney suggested the midterm elections could put the country on the right track in a response to President Trump\u2019s snarky social media posts <\/a>about the actor\u2019s recent decision to get French citizenship.<\/p>\n

On New Year\u2019s Eve, the president hailed Clooney\u2019s move as \u201cGood News!\u201d and made a stream-of-consciousness reference to the movie star\u2019s 2024 op-ed urging former President Biden to drop out of the race.<\/p>\n

\u201cRemember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe during a fundraiser, only to go onto the side of another stellar candidate, Jamala(K!), who is now fighting it out with the worst governor in the Country, including Tim Waltz [sic], Gavin Newscum, for who is going to lead the Democrats to their future defeat,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social. \u201cClooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn\u2019t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, Clooney, who has been one of Hollywood\u2019s most outspoken critics of Trump, used the president\u2019s own mantra. \u201cI totally agree with the current president,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to make America great again. We\u2019ll start in November.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clooney seems to be suggesting that he believes the Democrats could retake the House and possibly the Senate in the next election. The actor, his wife Amal Clooney and their two children have all received French citizenship. Clooney has praised French privacy laws, saying they provide more protections from paparazzi looking to snap photos of his kids.<\/p>\n

In a recent cover story<\/a> with Variety, Clooney also addressed his former friendship with President Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew him very well,\u201d Clooney says. \u201cHe used to call me a lot, and he tried to help me get into a hospital once to see a back surgeon. I\u2019d see him out at clubs and at restaurants. He\u2019s a big goofball. Well, he\u00a0was. That all changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clooney also argued that news networks like ABC and CBS should have fought back instead of settling lawsuits that the president filed against them.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf CBS and ABC had challenged those lawsuits and said, \u2018Go fuck yourself,\u2019 we wouldn\u2019t be where we are in the country,\u201d Clooney said. \u201cThat\u2019s simply the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n
