Two men have appeared in court charged in connection with the seizure of drugs and cash worth around \u20ac800,000.<\/p>\n
Christopher McCudden, 38, and 35-year-old Michael Pineda appeared before a sitting of Cork District Court, following their arrest in Cork city on 30 December.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed had seized \u20ac700,000 of cocaine, \u20ac60,000 of cannabis and \u20ac40,000 in cash in Cork.<\/p>\n
Follow up searches in Dublin led to the seizure of an additional \u20ac10,000 of cannabis and \u20ac4,000 in cash.<\/p>\n
Mr McCudden, with an address at Robin Hill, Sandyford Road in Dublin was charged with eight offences.<\/p>\n
He faces three charges of possession of drugs for sale or supply, three charges involving the possession of drugs and two charges of money laundering.<\/p>\n
An objection to bail was made and Det Garda Eoghan O’Mahony said that this was out of the “nature and seriousness of the charges and the possibility of further charges”.<\/p>\n
The court also heard that Mr McCudden represented a flight risk.<\/p>\n
Free legal aid was assigned because Mr McCudden is a recipient of social welfare and Judge Catherine Ryan granted bail in the case with an independent surety of \u20ac10,000 and a cash lodgement of \u20ac5,000.<\/p>\n
Mr McCudden was remanded in custody with consent to bail to appear before Cork District Court on 8 January.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mr Pineda of Castletreasure Grove, Douglas, Cork is charged with six offences.<\/p>\n
He is charged with two counts of sale and supply of drugs, two counts of possession of drugs and two counts of money laundering.<\/p>\n
There was no objection to bail once Mr Pineda abides bail conditions set down by the court.<\/p>\n
This includes that he sign on at his local garda station, provide a mobile number to garda\u00ed on which can be contacted on 24\/7, and resides at his home address.<\/p>\n
