LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln gyms are experiencing a surge in new memberships as residents begin their 2026 fitness resolutions.<\/p>\n
The YMCA has 120 new memberships across its four locations in just the last week. Executive Director Kelsey Fincham said she is passionate about helping people reach their fitness goals.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love it because that is something where I\u2019m very passionate about making sure that people become their best self and whatever that may be,\u201d Fincham said.<\/p>\n
Longtime YMCA gym member Jim Hollmann said the growth is exciting to see.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe whole community is growing and we see a lot of youth here,\u201d Hollmann said. \u201cI think it\u2019s just a really good way to hang out with the friends and get healthy together.\u201d<\/p>\n
Good Life Fitness also reported a spike with around 40 new memberships. Good Life Fitness owner Steve Auxier emphasized the importance of prioritizing health.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s everything. Our health is our most valuable asset that we have and it\u2019s something that should never be overlooked,\u201d Auxier said.<\/p>\n
For those hesitant about joining a gym, Good Life Fitness member Lora Iversen offered encouragement based on her own experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe very first time I came to a boot camp, I pulled up, I watched through the window, I started to cry, and I drove away because I thought there\u2019s no way I can do that,\u201d Iversen said. \u201cYou start where you can and just knowing that nobody else is watching you.\u201d<\/p>\n
