Deftones<\/a> frontman Chino Moreno has spoken to NME about Oasis<\/a>\u2018 legacy, and looked back at the time Liam Gallagher<\/a> called him \u201ca dude\u201d.<\/p>\n

The rock icon sat down for a new interview with NME<\/a>, celebrating the release of Deftones\u2019 \u201910th album \u2018Private Music\u2019<\/a>. It marks their first new album in five years, following on from 2020\u2019s \u2018Ohms\u2019<\/a>, and was previewed by the singles \u2018my mind is a mountain\u2019<\/a>, \u2018infinite source\u2019 and \u2018milk of the madonna\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The record was quick to receive high praise from fans and music critics alike, and saw the band continue to win over a new generation of fans, following previous hits like \u2018Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)\u2019, \u2018Sextape\u2019 and \u2018Cherry Waves\u2019 all going viral on TikTok<\/a> recently.<\/p>\n

Speaking about Deftones\u2019 ability to keep making new fans, over three decades since they first formed, Moreno said that he doesn\u2019t take it for granted, but also didn\u2019t go into the writing process looking to win over a younger generation.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if we thought about it that way \u2013 \u2018Oh, we need to make something for everybody\u2019 \u2013 I think we\u2019d be fooling ourselves to think we had a formula to do that,\u201d he told NME. But what\u2019s the secret sauce for this? \u201cThe answer is that I don\u2019t know. I would like to think that it is because we\u2019ve written good songs that have stood the test of time and transcend generations.\u201d<\/p>\n

He compared that to the overwhelming hype that Oasis have generated for their current reunion tour, adding: \u201cI can say that without sounding arrogant about Oasis, too: that\u2019s why their shows are what they are and why they have this broad demographic there.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey write great songs. I\u2019m not saying we write as great a song as they do, but I\u2019m saying that if you go through a catalogue, there are a handful of songs that transcend time.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cMultiple generations are into what we\u2019re doing. When I\u2019m on stage, it is inspiring to look out there and see fresh faces, and familiar faces as well. I don\u2019t think that\u2019s something that any of us anticipated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moreno also rocked up to his interview with NME wearing the black Oasis Adidas football shirt from the band\u2019s 2025 tour merch line<\/a>, and recalled the time that frontman Liam shared a tweet about him.<\/p>\n

For the latter, it came earlier this summer when a fan got in touch with Liam on X\/Twitter, sharing a photo of him and Moreno backstage at a festival. \u201cDo you remember meeting Chino Moreno from Deftones? You two look absolutely BEAUTIFUL,\u201d the fan wrote, to which the Manchester legend responded<\/a>: \u201cHe\u2019s a dude\u201d.<\/p>\n

Looking back at the tweet, Moreno told NME: \u201cI had to ask [my PR] what that meant. I was like, \u2018Is that good? Is that bad?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

When being told it was high praise, Moreno joked, \u201cAwesome, I love it.\u201d He then said he would be going to see Oasis when they perform in Chicago tomrrow (August 28), as part of their current North American tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n
