{"id":268493,"date":"2026-01-05T14:24:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T14:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/268493\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T14:24:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T14:24:07","slug":"school-closures-in-parts-of-ireland-as-met-eireann-issues-new-warnings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/268493\/","title":{"rendered":"School closures in parts of Ireland as Met \u00c9ireann issues new warnings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Schools and childcare facilities<\/strong> are closed or opening late on Monday as\u00a0<strong>snow and ice<\/strong> warnings remain in place.<\/p>\n<p>Roads in many parts of the country are treacherous on Monday morning after temperatures dipped to as low as <strong>minus six degrees<\/strong> in some places.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Met \u00c9ireann<\/strong> is warning that many counties will be affected by frost, ice and freezing fog patches on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>A Status Yellow Snow-Ice warning is in effect for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Connacht and Louth until 11am, and Met \u00c9ireann has said that other counties could receive some wintry showers.<\/p>\n<p>A new yellow low temperature warning will come into effect from 11 am in Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Munster, Galway, and Roscommon, until 9 am on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>A yellow snow and ice warning has also been issued for Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, and Mayo for the same timeframe.<\/p>\n<p>Met \u00c9ireann has warned of hazardous Travel conditions, black ice and poor visibility<\/p>\n<p>Parts of the north and west were hit with snow showers, with accumulations in some areas.<\/p>\n<p>Several schools in the north and west will be closed, or open after 11, following heavy snow and icy roads.<\/p>\n<p>Several schools in Donegal will be closed today, and in the North, a significant number will remain closed due to the adverse weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p>More than 180 schools in Northern Ireland were closed, and transport was impacted following a weekend of snow and low temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>The lowest temperature recorded was minus seven in Katesbridge, Co Down<\/p>\n<p>Monday will be a sunny day for most areas, with wintry showers mainly confined to the north and northwest fringes by midday.<\/p>\n<p>Highest temperatures will only be from one to six degrees in light to moderate northwest to west winds.<\/p>\n<p>Monday night will be Cold and dry with clear spells for most at first tonight, though wintry showers will become more widespread in the north.<\/p>\n<p>There will be frost and icy stretches,\u00a0 along with patches of mist and fog.
