Celtic are once again searching for answers after a turbulent few weeks resulted in the sacking of Wilfried Nancy, just 33 days into his reign.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s 3-1 defeat to Rangers in the Old Firm proved the final straw, leaving Celtic six points adrift of Hearts and prompting the board to act swiftly.<\/p>\n

Wilfried Nancy had been appointed following an interim spell by Martin O\u2019Neill, who steadied the ship by winning seven of his eight matches in charge after Brendan Rodgers’ resignation. The Frenchman arrived from the United States as an unknown, and when results and performances failed to convince in a short and unforgiving window, he looked like a doomed man very early on.<\/p>\n

In the immediate aftermath of Nancy\u2019s dismissal, attention quickly turned to what comes next.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Sky Sports, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton suggested the club may be best served by looking backwards before moving forwards.<\/p>\n

I think short term that would be the safest move for Celtic to do that. Bring back Martin and Shaun Maloney.<\/p>\n

In the short term for Celtic it\u2019s just about winning games and giving themselves a chance of winning the Premiership.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Chris Sutton pointed to the contrast between O\u2019Neill\u2019s immediate impact and the instability that followed Nancy\u2019s appointment.<\/p>\n

Martin did brilliant in a short space of time. And knowing Martin like I do, and having spoken to Martin when he was at Celtic, I think he was on record as saying the club need to add in January, so that would seem to be the safest and most sensible option.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

With Celtic now chasing in the title race and under pressure to reassert themselves domestically, Sutton believes clarity of purpose is required.<\/p>\n

Celtic have to think about winning the Scottish Premiership and getting back into the Champions League.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Nancy\u2019s brief tenure will inevitably raise questions about Celtic\u2019s recent decision-making at boardroom level, particularly given the stability Martin O\u2019Neill appeared to offer during his interim spell.<\/p>\n

Whether the club opts for a familiar face or a longer-term appointment remains to be seen, but Sutton\u2019s comments reflect a growing feeling of mayhem and a lack of control in Glasgow.<\/p>\n
