Three people were dead and 20 injured in a shooting at a Catholic school in the south end of Minneapolis<\/a> on Wednesday, a US justice department official said.<\/p>\n

The gumnan was among those killed, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n

The shooting occurred two days after school started at Annunciation Catholic school, a private elementary school with about 395 students. The school is connected to Annunciation Catholic Church, and both are located in a residential area in the southeast part of Minnesota\u2019s largest city.<\/p>\n

Police in Richfield, a nearby suburb, said a man dressed all in black with a rifle was reported at the scene. A news conference is expected about 10:30 Central time, according to local TV.<\/p>\n

Children were at a morning Mass when shooting began, local media reported.<\/p>\n

Local TV showed parents ducking under yellow police crime tape and leading students out of the school. The students wore green polo shirts and blue shorts and skirts.<\/p>\n

US president Donald Trump<\/a> said he had been briefed on the shooting and said the FBI<\/a> was on the scene. \u201cPlease join me in praying for everyone involved!\u201d he said on social media.<\/p>\n

Minnesota\u2019s governor Tim Walz said he had been \u201cbriefed on a shooting at Annunciation Catholic school\u201d on Wednesday morning and would \u201ccontinue to provide updates as we get more information\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe [Bureau of Criminal Apprehension] and State Patrol are on scene. I\u2019m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence,\u201d he wrote on X.<\/p>\n

Minneapolis\u2019s mayor Jacob Frey said he was \u201cmonitoring reports of horrific violence in south Minneapolis\u201d and the \u201cemergency response team has been activated\u201d. <\/p>\n

The department of homeland security is in touch with local authorities and monitoring the situation, homeland security secretary Kristi Noem said on social media.<\/p>\n

There have been three other shootings in the midwestern city since Tuesday afternoon that have together left three people dead and seven wounded, according to police.
