While most of us are dusting off the gym gear and tentatively back to getting our steps in after the festive period, one man who is already in full swing on his fitness journey is Listowel native Eddie Horgan, who is facing into what is potentially the busiest 2026 of anyone in the entire country!<\/p>\n
Fresh off a 2025 in which he successfully lost 30kg, completed a full marathon, a doubles hyrox sim, an official hyrox singles as well as an astonishingly fast 19 minute 25 seconds 5km, Eddie is set to push himself even further this year \u2013 all in honour of his four-year-old son Axel as well as the charity, Cl\u00edona\u2019s Foundation.<\/p>\n
Axel was born with a rare condition known as Cloves. This is a rare congenital lipomatous overgrowth condition \u2013 with no cure \u2013 that results in vascular, spinal, skin and joint abnormalities. The Kerry community have rallied around him and his mom and dad, Eddie and Sarah, in recent years with a number of amazing fundraising initiatives.<\/p>\n
Now, in 2026, Eddie said that he wants to set an example to his two boys, Axel and his younger brother, Arlo, and show them that anything is possible.<\/p>\n
Writing on the online fundraising page that he has set up for his busy 2026, Eddie said that not long after being born, he and Sarah were told Axel wouldn\u2019t see three or four years old and would never walk. Fast forward to now, when he is running and, indeed, has just broken his femur.<\/p>\n
So to prove anything is possible, Axel will be doing the Great Limerick Run full 26.2-mile marathon on May 3, the day after his fourth birthday party, with Eddie pushing him in his chair the whole way!<\/p>\n
Then, as if this wasn\u2019t enough, Eddie will also be doing:<\/p>\n
Explaining why he chose Cliona\u2019s Foundation as his charity of choice, Eddie said that he it is one that is close to their hearts and that they have seen the essential service that they provide firsthand.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring our fundraising for Axel, we were blown away by the generosity of people we knew but also complete strangers, so I really want to try to give back some of that kindness!\u201d Eddie wrote.<\/p>\n
