A tax law change on January 1 is a key factor.<\/p>\n<p>Abiove, which includes ADM <a data-testid=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/companies\/ADM.N\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC link-module__with-icon__qlg76\">(ADM.N), opens new tab<\/a>, Bunge <a data-testid=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/companies\/BG.N\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC link-module__with-icon__qlg76\">(BG.N), opens new tab<\/a>, Cargill, Cofco and Louis Dreyfus among members, confirmed in a subsequent statement it had &#8220;initiated talks&#8221; to exit the pact, which is backed by the federal government and conservation groups.The group and about two-thirds of the companies that formerly participated no longer appeared on Monday on the <a data-testid=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/moratoriadasoja.com.br\/home\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC link-module__with-icon__qlg76\">moratorium agreement&#8217;s website, opens new tab<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>WWF said in a statement that the decision was an environmental setback.<\/p>\n<p>Departure of the firms from the pact &#8220;weakens one of the most effective instruments for combating deforestation in the country,&#8221; and it exposes farmers to increasing climate risks, WWF said.<\/p>\n<p>Greenpeace also criticized the move, saying it would violate promises made to investors and international markets.<\/p>\n<p>The moratorium is credited with slowing the destruction of the world&#8217;s largest rainforest.
