Ryanair has strict rules when it comes to luggage<\/p>\n
Ryanair is planning to raise bonuses for its staff who spot passengers attempting to take oversized baggage on flights.<\/p>\n
The airline\u2019s chief executive Michael O\u2019Leary said he makes \u201cabsolutely no apology\u201d for catching people who are \u201cscamming the system\u201d.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press conference in London, Mr O\u2019Leary told reporters the airline will probably raise incentives for gate staff who intercept passengers trying to bring oversized luggage on board from \u20ac1.50 to \u20ac2.50 per bag from November.<\/p>\n
A monthly cap of \u20ac80 is also set to be scrapped.<\/p>\n
Passengers travelling with the airline face strict luggage rules, with fees of up to \u20ac80 charged for putting an oversized bag in the hold if it is brought to the boarding gate.<\/p>\n
Only one small bag that can fit under the seat in front is included in the lowest fares.<\/p>\n
\u201cI make absolutely no apology for it whatsoever,\u201d Mr O\u2019Leary said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want our ground handling people to be catching people who are scamming the system.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cI am still mystified by the number of people with rucksacks who still think they\u2019re going to get through the gate and we won\u2019t notice the rucksack.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will, and you will be paying for the rucksack. You\u2019re not getting on if it doesn\u2019t fit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr O\u2019Leary said about 200,000 passengers per year are charged luggage fees at airport gates, so \u201cwe have more work to do to get rid of them\u201d.<\/p>\n
The airline carried 200 million passengers in the year to the end of March.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want everybody to comply with the rules. If you comply with the rules, no issues,\u201d Mr O\u2019Leary said.<\/p>\n
