This seventh-floor condo in the heart of Manhattan\u2019s Upper West Side was the last one to hit the market in the Astor, the notable 1901 building that has just emerged from a total rehab and redo, and promptly went into contract.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey just finished this one,\u201d said listing agent Kyle Egan, of Douglas Elliman. \u201cIt\u2019s the last hurrah here. The unit is big\u2014almost 3,800 square feet\u2014so it feels like a home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Led by designers Pembrooke & Ives, the renovation work included adding modern amenities, restoring the building\u2019s historic facade, updating the lobby and interiors, converting the rental apartments into luxury condos and adding contemporary penthouses on top, according to published reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The landmarked building at 235 West 75th St., between Broadway and West End Avenue, was developed in 1901 by William Waldorf Astor, who also built the Waldorf Hotel and the Apthorp. The Astor is made up of three towers, two of which are eight stories and a third 12-story building that was added in 1914. All three wings are connected at the base and have gray brick facades above a limestone base.<\/p>\n

This residence takes up half of the seventh floor, so it has a semi-private elevator landing, Egan said. \u201cYou come into a big entry foyer, with bedroom wings on both sides, which feels really balanced.\u201d<\/p>\n

The finishes in the apartment, which hit the market at the end of November and went into contract several weeks later, have a \u201crich and substantial feel,\u201d he said. \u201cThey are modern but right for the period of the building. The palette is white and dark brown. It all fits.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other architectural and design details include a library\/media room, herringbone floors with walnut inlay in the living areas, double-paned insulated windows, individual climate control in every room, 10-foot ceilings, a laundry closet, hardware by Valli & Valli and fixtures by Lefroy Brooks.<\/p>\n

A gallery hallway leads into the open-plan great room, which has the kitchen and living and dining spaces, Egan said. The kitchen is open, but it sits off the living room \u201cso it\u2019s not in your face.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new kitchen features a mix of white lacquer and stained oak cabinetry, Calacatta Gold countertops and backsplash and an integrated suite of appliances by Gaggenau, Miele and Sub-Zero, according to the listing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

From the great room, \u201cyou have classic views right up the Broadway corridor,\u201d Egan said. \u201cYou get a sense of the scale and grandeur of Broadway.\u201d<\/p>\n

The east-facing primary suite offers a walk-in closet and a windowed en suite with marble finishes, double vanities with Lefroy Brooks hardware, radiant-heat floors, a freestanding soaking tub and an oversized shower with frameless glass doors, according to the listing. The home is fully pre-wired to accommodate motorized window shades, and advanced home automation and AV systems.<\/p>\n

Nearby attractions include Central Park, Riverside Park, the Museum of Natural History, the Beacon Theater, Lincoln Center and good grocery shopping at Fairway, Citarella, Trader Joe\u2019s and Zabar\u2019s.<\/p>\n
