{"id":273407,"date":"2026-01-08T03:39:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T03:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/273407\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T03:39:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T03:39:07","slug":"man-with-four-knives-triggers-five-hour-stand-off-in-garda-station-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/273407\/","title":{"rendered":"Man with four knives triggers five-hour stand-off in Garda station \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A man with profound mental health problems walked into the public office of a Dublin Garda station with four knives, saying \u201che wished to harm Caucasian males and himself\u201d, it has been alleged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The incident in Blanchardstown, early on Tuesday morning, triggered a five-hour \u201cstand-off\u201d with armed garda\u00ed and negotiators, a late sitting of Dublin District Court heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Former landscaping foreman Simon Naidu (30), with an address at Delhurst, Ongar, and lately residing at a charity-provided apartment in Clonsilla, both in Dublin, was charged with four counts of possessing offensive weapons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He was refused bail when he appeared before Judge Karen Dowling on Wednesday evening. She remanded him in custody and requested that he receive urgent medical and psychiatric attention in prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda Daniel Reardon opposed bail, telling the judge that the accused entered the station at 3.45am with four kitchen knives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe accused stated to garda\u00ed that he wished to harm Caucasian males and also harm himself,\u201d said Garda Reardon.
