When loved ones, children and friends are included, the number of people affected could be up to six times higher.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Gambling Commission (2023), 77% of people experiencing harms say incentives (such as free offers or bonuses) encourage them to gamble more than they want. The Gambling Commission (2024) also reports 69% of young people have seen or heard gambling adverts. Advertising and marketing can also impact choices, even without people realising it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Walsall residents can access the Council\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/go.walsall.gov.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-11\/Gambling%20Harms%20Directory%20for%20residents.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gambling harms directory<\/a> (also <a href=\"https:\/\/go.walsall.gov.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-11\/Gambling%20Harms%20Directory%20for%20professionals.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">available for professionals<\/a>), which includes the following three steps for positive short and long-term change:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Using tools which mean you can no longer gamble, such as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamecare.org.uk\/talk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TalkBanStop<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Access online resources to help understand how gambling can harm you, such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapter-one.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chapter ONE<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Refer yourself to a specialist gambling treatment service, such as the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.midlandsgamblingclinic.org\/self-referral\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Midlands NHS Gambling Support Clinic<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aquarius.org.uk\/services\/gambling-support\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aquarius<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote ml-4 ml-sm-5 my-5 border-left\">\n<p class=\"mb-0\">\u201c Gambling harms often go unseen, affecting not just individuals but families and friends too. If gambling is causing worry about money, relationships or work, you\u2019re not alone. It is not your fault. There is help available and recovery is possible.
