\n\tItalian distribution company I Wonder Pictures<\/a> has acquired the Mexican drama-thriller \u201cOn the Road<\/a>,\u201d directed by David Pablos<\/a>, which world premieres Sept. 4 in the Horizons section of the Venice Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film\u2019s producers include Inna Pay\u00e1n and \u201cAndor\u201d star Diego Luna. Berlin-based sales agency M-Appeal is handling world sales.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOn the Road\u201d follows Veneno, a rebellious young drifter, who frequents roadside diners where he sleeps with truck drivers. Urgently needing a ride, he meets Mu\u00f1eco, a hard-edged driver who keeps to himself. He convinces Mu\u00f1eco to take him deep into the hyper-masculine world of long-haul trucking across the north of Mexico.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs they travel together and an unexpected intimacy builds between them, shadows from Veneno\u2019s past resurface, putting both their lives at risk.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film stars non-professional actor Victor Miguel Prieto and Osvaldo S\u00e1nchez (\u201cPedro P\u00e1ramo\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\tI Wonder Pictures titles include \u201cEverything Everywhere All at Once,\u201d \u201cThe Zone of Interest,\u201d \u201cEddington\u201d and \u201cSound of Falling.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPablos\u2019 previous credits include \u201cDance of the 41\u201d and \u201cThe Chosen Ones,\u201d as well as directing the first four episodes of Amazon\u2019s Western series \u201cThe Head of Joaqu\u00edn Murrieta.\u201d \u201cThe Chosen Ones\u201d screened at major international festivals including Cannes (Un Certain Regard) and San Sebasti\u00e1n (Horizontes Latinos), going on to land a Goya nomination for Best Ibero-American Film.<\/p>\n

\n\tPay\u00e1n\u2019s previous titles include \u201cThe Golden Dream\u201d (\u201cLa jaula de oro\u201d), which received 81 international awards, including Un Certain Talent at Cannes in 2013. Other producing credits include \u201cDevil\u2019s Freedom\u201d (\u201cLa libertad del diablo\u201d), which premiered at the Berlinale in 2017, and family drama \u201cLos Lobos,\u201d winner of the Generation KPlus Grand Prix at Berlinale in 2020.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOn the Road\u201d is produced by Pay\u00e1n\u2019s Animal de Luz, in co-production with La Corriente del Golfo, headed by Luna and Gael Garc\u00eda Bernal, The Maestros Cine, EFD Studios, Terminal Films and Producciones A\u00f1o Bisiesto.
