Florence Pugh and James Norton’s “magnificent” period drama Little Women has landed a new streaming home in the UK and Ireland.<\/p>\n

Based on Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 novel of the same name, the film follows four sisters as they make their own way in the US in the years following the civil war. <\/p>\n

The synopsis reads: “In 19th century Massachusetts, the March sisters \u2013 Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy \u2013 on the threshold of womanhood, go through many ups and downs in life and endeavor to make important decisions about their futures.”<\/p>\n

Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, Emma Watson, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep alongside Pugh and Norton. <\/p>\n

The 2019 period drama was added to Netflix in the UK and Ireland on Tuesday having only just been removed from Prime Video<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Little Women, which is Pugh’s highest-rated movie, was a hit among critics and currently has a score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> from 441 reviews. <\/p>\n

GQ<\/a> raved about Gerwig’s adaptation, calling it “a magnificent update of a timeless classic”, adding that the director’s “adoration for the novel, and the author herself, is omnipresent, and these adjustments only come from a desire to do Alcott justice. I\u2019m certain she would approve”. <\/p>\n

The Guardian<\/a> shared those sentiments, writing: “There’s nothing little about Greta Gerwig’s rich, warm, bustlingly populated and passionately devoted new tribute to Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel of sisterhood.”<\/p>\n

Variety<\/a> said: “As one might hope, Gerwig’s interpretation does right by the material, sticking to the original period and setting and assembling a dream cast to play the March siblings.”<\/p>\n
