{"id":276088,"date":"2026-01-09T15:03:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T15:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/276088\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T15:03:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T15:03:07","slug":"vehicles-went-off-the-road-in-black-ice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/276088\/","title":{"rendered":"Vehicles went off the road in black ice"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Black ice caused problems for motorists and pedestrians across the region this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Midwest News received reports of vehicles leaving the road in locations all over the region early this morning.<\/p>\n<p>We are not aware of any serious injuries as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Freezing temperatures overnight last night resulted in black ice on many route.<\/p>\n<p>Secondary roads, untreated, were particularly dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>Footpaths were described as lethal\u2013 as were the surfaces in many car parks.<\/p>\n<p>Mayo County Council say its gritting teams were deployed last night and again early this morning across the region to grit all routes outlined in the winter service plan.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures dropping below zero coupled with heavy showers after gritting in some areas, created further challenging road conditions,<\/p>\n<p>The Council is \u00a0urging the public to exercise caution on all roads, whether they are gritted or not, during this period of low temperatures<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Black ice caused problems for motorists and pedestrians across the region this morning.
