The thieves ransacked the house and stole the keys to two vehicles—a 2021 Kia and a 2025 Ford Transit.”

“Luckily, both vehicles were stolen and found not far from the scene, possibly because of icy road conditions that night,” added Sgt O’Halloran. “However, the damage caused to the property and the distress to the homeowners, who were away on holiday, is still significant.”

READ MORE: Limerick boy, aged 13, kicks girl, 12, in the ribs after she made sex assault complaint

The gardai are appealing to anyone who may have any information about this burglary or if they observed anyone acting suspicious around 3am on January 6 in the Kilteragh area, to contact Roxboro Garda Station on 061 214340.

The local crime prevention officer explained: “We always remind people to lock all doors and windows when leaving their homes, even if it’s just for a short period. If you’re planning to go on holiday, ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property and even park their car in your driveway. This simple step can deter criminals who are searching for empty occupied homes.”

Sgt O’Halloran advised that lighting also plays a significant role. “Using timers to turn lights on and off at various times of the evening creates the illusion that someone is home. It’s a good idea to also set up an intruder alarm if you don’t already have one.”

She concluded: “If the alarm goes off, the risk of being caught generally makes criminals flee the scene quickly. It’s a great way to protect your property, especially when you’re away.”

ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOW

ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOW

ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOW

ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOW

ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOW

ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOW

ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOW

ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOW

ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOW

LIMERICK gardai are appealing for information regarding a break-in in Kilteragh.
