{"id":278549,"date":"2026-01-11T01:01:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T01:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/278549\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T01:01:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T01:01:09","slug":"the-top-10-most-watched-tv-shows-in-ireland-in-2025-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/278549\/","title":{"rendered":"The top 10 most-watched TV shows in Ireland in 2025 \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/rte\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/rte\/\">RT\u00c9<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/late-late-toy-show\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/late-late-toy-show\/\">Late Late Toy Show<\/a> was once again the most-watched programme on Irish television for 2025, according to viewing figures released by TAM Ireland\/Nielsen Media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Toy Show dominated the top spot with an audience of 1,590,200 in December as presenter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/patrick-kielty\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/patrick-kielty\/\">Patrick Kielty<\/a> took to the stage alongside children from across Ireland for a Grinch-themed show. This was up on last year\u2019s viewership of 1,525,800. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Sport dominated much of the top-10 most watched television programmes last year. The  All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/sport\/gaelic-games\/2025\/07\/21\/five-key-moments-tipperary-turnaround-stuns-cork-in-all-ireland-decider\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/sport\/gaelic-games\/2025\/07\/21\/five-key-moments-tipperary-turnaround-stuns-cork-in-all-ireland-decider\/\">Cork and Tipperary<\/a> on RT\u00c92 had 995,300 viewers, taking second place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Spots two to six and from eight to 10 on the most-watched list were different sports matches.   The reality gameshow The Traitors Ireland, on RT\u00c9 One, came in at seventh position with 818,000 viewers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Six Nations match between Ireland and France on RT\u00c92 was in third position, while the  All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/sport\/gaelic-games\/2025\/07\/27\/kerry-meet-the-moment-to-blow-donegal-away-for-one-of-the-sweetest-all-irelands-theyve-ever-won\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/sport\/gaelic-games\/2025\/07\/27\/kerry-meet-the-moment-to-blow-donegal-away-for-one-of-the-sweetest-all-irelands-theyve-ever-won\/\">Donegal and Kerry<\/a>, also on RT\u00c92 was fourth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In fifth spot was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/six-nations\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/six-nations\">Six Nations<\/a> match between Ireland and England on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/virgin-media\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/virgin-media\/\">Virgin Media<\/a> One.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">While GAA and rugby matches dominated the top 10, in eighth position was the World Cup qualifier between Hungary and the Republic of Ireland on RT\u00c92. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Overall, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/rte\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/rte\">RT\u00c9<\/a> delivered 45 of the Top 50 of 2025\u2019s most-watched shows on TV. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">RT\u00c9 said it saw an increase in the number of younger viewers aged 15 to 34 years at 25.8 per cent last year, the highest level in more than 14 years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Meanwhile, the RT\u00c9 Player had 157 million streams in 2025, a 10 per cent year-on-year increase as time spent watching saw an increase of 17 per cent. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">EastEnders was the most watched item on the  player followed by Fair City, Home and Away and The Traitors Ireland. While individual player figures were not provided, the following were the top 10 shows watched on the player last year:<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">RT\u00c9\u2019s director of video <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/steve-carson\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/steve-carson\/\">Steve Carson<\/a>  said: \u201cIt\u2019s been a remarkable year for RT\u00c9 programming.
