{"id":278895,"date":"2026-01-11T06:37:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T06:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/278895\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T06:37:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T06:37:14","slug":"kmt-offers-legal-assistance-to-challenge-pension-cut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/278895\/","title":{"rendered":"KMT offers legal assistance to challenge pension cut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) yesterday promised to provide legal assistance to retired police officers and firefighters affected by the government\u2019s refusal to budget pension increases mandated by a bill passed by the legislature and signed by President William Lai (\u8cf4\u6e05\u5fb7).<\/p>\n<p>The KMT and the Taiwan People\u2019s Party (TPP), which together hold a majority in the legislature, pushed through the Police Personnel Management Act (\u8b66\u5bdf\u4eba\u54e1\u4eba\u4e8b\u689d\u4f8b) in January last year to raise income replacement ratios for police officers and firefighters. The act was signed into law by Lai in late April last year.<\/p>\n<p>Citing constitutional concerns over legislative measures that increase government spending, the Cabinet has refused to implement the increases, and petitioned the Constitutional Court for a provisional injunction and a constitutional interpretation, both of which are pending.<\/p>\n<p>                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/P02-260110-012.jpg\" width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Photo: George Tsorng, Taipei Times<\/p>\n<p>KMT Legislator Wu Tsung-hsien (\u5433\u5b97\u61b2) yesterday urged retirees who have received notices from the Ministry of Civil Service confirming their updated income replacement ratios to request a review of their cases.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers who regularly work with the party are willing to represent affected retirees and the party would cover any legal fees, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The KMT would also file a lawsuit demanding that the Cabinet allocate funding for the pension increases, he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a matter of justice.
