{"id":27917,"date":"2025-08-28T03:41:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T03:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/27917\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T03:41:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T03:41:08","slug":"tourism-slump-continues-with-july-data-pointing-to-further-fall-off-in-visitors-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/27917\/","title":{"rendered":"Tourism slump continues with July data pointing to further fall-off in visitors \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The latest official<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tourism\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tourism\/\"> tourism numbers<\/a> point to a continuing fall-off in inbound visitors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/central-statistics-office\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/central-statistics-office\/\">Central Statistics Office<\/a> (CSO) data for July show some 646,400 foreign visitors completed a trip to Ireland during the month, a decrease of 1 per cent when compared with the same month in both 2024 and 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The overall spend (excluding air fares) associated with this inbound travel was put at \u20ac624 million, down 4 per cent on the same month last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The agency\u2019s data on the sector suggest it has been experiencing a decline in both visitor numbers and spending since September last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Several industry bodies, however, claim that the CSO figures do not tally with the experience of businesses on the ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Global tourist markets have struggled to recover from the pandemic. Uncertainty around US trade policy is also said to be playing into the trend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/08\/09\/evidence-of-difficult-year-for-irish-tourism-continues-to-mount\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Evidence of difficult year for Irish tourism continues to mountOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Tourism is one of Ireland\u2019s largest indigenous industries, employing 257,900 people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The CSO\u2019s data indicated \u201cthe largest contingent of visitors\u201d came from Britain (33 per cent) followed by visitors from the United States (25 per cent).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Visitors from Britain accounted for \u20ac118 million (19 per ent) of the overall spend, Continental Europe for \u20ac197 million (32 per cent), North America for \u20ac255 million (41 per cent), and visitors from the rest of the world for \u20ac54 million (9 per cent).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The most frequent reason for travelling to Ireland was for a holiday (45 per cent), the agency said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The latest official tourism numbers point to a continuing fall-off in inbound visitors.
