{"id":280620,"date":"2026-01-12T09:19:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T09:19:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/280620\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T09:19:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T09:19:07","slug":"schools-to-receive-55000-mental-health-trial-in-cherwell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/280620\/","title":{"rendered":"Schools to receive \u00a355,000 mental health trial in Cherwell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Thirty-one schools in the Cherwell district and 215 parents or carers responded to the study.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It found that pupils in Years 4 and 5 were most likely to be struggling, with stress and anxiety identified as the most common issues by both parents and school staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Other concerns included anger, low self-esteem and sleep problems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">These were the year groups that began school during the Covid-19 pandemic and all of the school staff surveyed said the prevalence of children with mental health concerns and challenges had increased since the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Researchers also highlighted a widespread demand for a blended support offer, combining whole-class emotional wellbeing workshops with one-to-one help, as well as better communication with families about available support. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In addition most staff reported they only partly feel equipped to support pupils&#8217; wellbeing, and many pointed to a need for more training in areas such as emotional regulation and neurodiversity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Thirty-one schools in the Cherwell district and 215 parents or carers responded to the study.
