A YOUNG boy – who gardai believe was killed by his father – was rescued by gardai in Limerick<\/a> three months earlier, it has emerged.<\/p>\n

Ois\u00edn Reddin, aged 12, is believed to have been killed by his father Wayne O\u2019Reilly, 48, some time last Wednesday night or just after midnight on Thursday. It’s believed Mr O’Reilly then took his own life.<\/p>\n

Garda\u00ed and emergency services were called to a domestic residence in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot, Dublin at around 8.30am on Thursday, January 8.<\/p>\n

\u201cA body of a male, aged in his 40s, was discovered deceased at the scene. In follow-up enquiries the body of a 12-year-old boy was discovered at a domestic residence in Clondalkin,\u201d said a garda spokesperson.<\/p>\n

The Journal has since revealed that armed gardai forced their way into a hotel room in Limerick to save Ois\u00edn after his father threatened to kill him in October –\u00a0 three months before their deaths. Ois\u00edn and his father had been reported missing in October but were located two days later.<\/p>\n

\u201cGarda\u00ed tracked the pair to a hotel in Limerick city. Armed Support Unit officers entered the room, detained Wayne O\u2019Reilly, and took Ois\u00edn to safety,\u201d reported The Journal.<\/p>\n

Multiple outlets have said that Wayne O\u2019Reilly was facing a custody challenge over the boy in the coming months.<\/p>\n

Post mortems on the remains of the father and son have been completed, gardai said. Results of the post mortems are not being released for operational reasons.<\/p>\n

Technical examinations at both domestic residences have been completed.<\/p>\n

The garda investigation continues to be carried out under the direction of a senior investigating officer.<\/p>\n

The National Review Panel which investigates serious incidents including the deaths of children in care and known to the child protection system, has said it will be completing a review in due course into the death of Ois\u00edn Reddin.<\/p>\n

Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, has confirmed that Ois\u00edn and his family were known to the agency, but that he was not in the care of the State.<\/p>\n

An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na are appealing to any person who may have any information in relation to these deaths to contact the garda investigation team at Clondalkin garda station at 01-6667600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or at any garda station.<\/p>\n

No funeral arrangements have been announced at this time.<\/p>\n
