A large study of Medicare and Medicaid records found that <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1002\/alz70860_100521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">more autistic adults develop senile dementia<\/a> than their non-autistic peers, whereas fewer receive a diagnosis of Alzheimer\u2019s disease. A similarly sized study of electronic health records reported that \u201chigh-functioning\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1002\/alz70861_108233\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">autistic adults are more likely to progress to dementia<\/a> than those without autism. Other researchers explored factors that may contribute to the overlap\u2014genetics and polypharmacy.
