The trial of a 47-year old mother charged with attempting to murder her then eight-year-old daughter at temporary accommodation in Co Clare<\/a> is due to commence in Limerick<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n

In the case, the mother – who cannot be named to protect the identity of her daughter – is charged with attempting to murder her daughter at temporary accommodation in Co Clare on September 27, 2022.<\/p>\n

In the aftermath of the alleged attempted murder in September 2022 the young girl\u2019s condition was described as \u201ccritical\u201d after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times at her accommodation.<\/p>\n

After the girl subsequently underwent emergency surgery at Crumlin Children\u2019s Hospital in Dublin a Garda<\/a> spokesman said at the time that she was \u201cout of danger\u201d.<\/p>\n

At Ennis District Court in June 2023, Judge Alec Gabbett returned the woman for trial to the Central Criminal Court on the attempted murder charge after a two volume Book of Evidence was served on solicitor, Tara Godfrey for the accused.<\/p>\n

The case is listed to commence today before Mr Justice Kerida Naidoo at the Central Criminal Court sitting at Limerick courthouse.<\/p>\n

At the district court when returning the accused for trial at the Central Criminal Court, Judge Gabbett extended the legal aid certificate to cover a psychiatric assessment of the accused.<\/p>\n

Judge Gabbett also extended the legal aid certificate for a Russian translation of the Book of Evidence and psychiatric assessment.<\/p>\n

Ms Godfrey\u2019s request for a legal aid certificate for a senior counsel and junior counsel to represent the accused in the Central Criminal Court was also granted.<\/p>\n

The accused was first arrested and brought to Ennis Garda Station for questioning on March 14, 2023 and brought before a special sitting of Ennis District Court the following day when she was charged.<\/p>\n
