{"id":282582,"date":"2026-01-13T20:18:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T20:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/282582\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T20:18:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T20:18:10","slug":"bureau-de-change-enlivens-apartment-block-with-pink-panels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/282582\/","title":{"rendered":"Bureau de Change enlivens apartment block with pink panels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Architecture studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/bureau-de-change\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bureau de Change<\/a>\u00a0has updated a 1980s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/apartments\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">apartment<\/a> block in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/london\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London<\/a>, revitalising its facade with pink <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/concrete\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">concrete<\/a> panels made from demolition waste.<\/p>\n<p>Named Trace, the building in Euston was revamped for developer <a href=\"https:\/\/hgglondon.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HGG<\/a> to provide five apartments across its six storeys, which include two floors added as part of the project.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.b-de-c.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bureau de Change<\/a> sought to reuse as much of the existing structure as possible, retaining the building&#8217;s original foundations and primary structure, and using bricks from its original facade to create a new frontage of glass-reinforced concrete panels.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2285999 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/bureau-de-change-trace-retrofit-london_dezeen_2364_col_14-852x1143.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior view of Trace apartment block\" width=\"1762\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Bureau de Change\u00a0has updated a 1980s apartment block in London<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The existing building was clad with &#8217;80s red brick, so we felt that retaining a reference to that would be fitting for the new building,&#8221; studio co-founder Billy Mavropoulos told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We collected the facade demolition material \u2013 brick and mortar \u2013 and we crushed it down to a maximum six-millimetre-thick aggregate,&#8221; Mavropoulos added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That was then reconstituted in the new panels we cast for the new facade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2285991 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/bureau-de-change-trace-retrofit-london_dezeen_2364_col_7-852x1247.jpg\" alt=\"Rear facade of updated residential block by Bureau de Change\" width=\"1615\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The building was renewed and extended with two additional floors<\/p>\n<p>The concrete panels, which were hand-cast individually, are organised across the exterior in a gridded pattern that ranges from a reddish to pale pink shade.<\/p>\n<p>They are set off by dark-framed, arched windows at each level and a matching top-floor extension.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/10\/10\/cuozzo-company-infill-block-london\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/cuozzo-company-112-peckham-high-street-london_dezeen_2364_sq-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Infill block courtyard\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Cuozzo.Company wraps London infill block around deep lightwell\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A shared entrance, updated with a similarly arched form and concrete-clad frame, sits beside the large archway at ground level and opens up to a circulation core.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The glass-reinforced concrete panels are unique on each level and each one of them consists of various colour and aggregate density layers,&#8221;
