Kochi: Bringing back those who resigned is not on the immediate agenda of the organisation, said actress Shwetha Menon, the newly elected president of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists). She was referring to the survivor of the actress assault case, who was once a member of the organisation but had stepped down. \u201cIt would be a joy if she returns. But reinstatement can only happen in accordance with rules and regulations,\u201d Shwetha told Mathrubhumi News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are many issues that need to be resolved. We cannot remain stuck on just one point. She was once part of the organisation but chose to resign. If she returns, it would be welcome. But if you ask whether it\u2019s an urgent agenda item, it is not. I am not bringing in rules from my own household. There are specific rules and bylaws that apply to reinstating former members,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n \u201cThose who left AMMA should come back. That\u2019s the wish of the majority of our members. Everyone wonders why they distanced themselves. Personally, I wish for their return. Maybe one meeting won\u2019t be enough \u2014 it might take ten or even a hundred meetings. I hope the executive committee and general body will support my personal mission. As the president, I will take the initiative,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m fully aware of the responsibilities of this position. Things take time \u2014 everything will be set right gradually. According to the bylaws, decisions are made in the executive committee and then implemented only with the general body\u2019s approval. I have many thoughts in mind, but personal decisions cannot be enforced. Decisions must be collective,\u201d Shwetha explained regarding her role and responsibilities as president.<\/p>\n \u201cThose facing allegations must step aside \u2014 it\u2019s a matter of social responsibility. Not everything should be governed strictly by bylaws; there needs to be social accountability too. When allegations arose, both Siddique and Idavela Babu stepped down. In Babu Raj\u2019s case, since he didn\u2019t step aside after the case was filed, the matter escalated. That doesn\u2019t mean I view them as bad people. They are always welcome to return. They are still AMMA members,\u201d she clarified.<\/p>\n
