A driving instructor from Limerick<\/a> with 30 years of experience has shared some dangers that could cause accidents on the roads in the county.<\/p>\n

The instructor, who wishes to remain anonymous, first pointed out that zebra road crossings that are placed just before or after roundabouts in Limerick are “not safe at all.”<\/p>\n

“You have people coming off the roundabouts and there could be people crossing the zebra crossing and the driver is trying to negotiate the roundabout and might not anticipate the people crossing in time,” they said.<\/p>\n

The instructor added that he sees reckless driving on the roads in Limerick everyday, whether it be people overtaking on a continuous white line or people using the wrong lane on a roundabout.<\/p>\n

But he said that he wouldn’t put that down to people’s skills or ability and would say reckless driving is more so people’s attitudes on the roads.<\/p>\n

“What I find is from giving lessons, it’s people’s mindsets….it’s people’s attitude behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

“So, if\u00a0you drop something on the ground someone would help you pick it up, or if you were coming out behind someone or before them,\u00a0they might stop, open the door to let to you in somewhere.<\/p>\n

“But\u00a0then when a person gets behind the wheel of a vehicle and then this thing called road rage kicks in – where it’s like, you know, they’re so superior on the road.<\/p>\n

“Even if the other person was completely in the wrong,\u00a0I find road rage has a lot to play in people’s attitudes towards driving and that in itself could become reckless because they focus on the rage\u00a0and they stop focusing on the safety aspect of their driving.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

The local instructor gave his advice on a person who is about to start taking their driving lessons or about to drive on the roads for the first time.<\/p>\n

“I would say, you have gone from zero years to 17 years of age to learn to drive.<\/p>\n

“Don’t try to learn to drive too quickly; build up your bank of experience, your knowledge, learn from your mistakes, don’t dwell on them.<\/p>\n

“Lick your wounds and go out and keep practicing.\u00a0And every single time you could sit into your car, treat it as if it’d be your first or second time in your car,\u00a0when you’d be ultra safe.”<\/p>\n
