The first trailer for The Hack, the upcoming ITV drama<\/a> starring Toby Jones and David Tennant, has been released. <\/p>\n

The series<\/a> depicts the News International phone hacking scandal, in which News of the World was shut down after investigators found that employees had been involved in phone hacking, police bribery and exercising improper influence in the pursuit of stories.<\/p>\n

Starring Jones as The Guardian editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger and Tennant as investigative journalist Nick Davies, the trailer gives viewers a taste of what to expect, with the latter delivering a voice-over.<\/p>\n

“My name is Nick Davies and this is a story that ends in seven major police investigations, nearly 40 convictions and some of the most powerful people in this country being brought to their knees,” he says.<\/p>\n

The trailer also reveals glimpses of Davies’s investigation and the web of lies it uncovers, with scenes that suggest the danger it poses to those investigating allegations of phone hacking and corruption. <\/p>\n

In addition to Jones and Tennant, the cast for the seven-part series<\/a> includes Steve Pemberton, Dougray Scott and Eve Myles, with the trio playing media mogul Rupert Murdoch, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and TV presenter Jacqui Hames respectively (via Deadline<\/a>). <\/p>\n

Other cast members include Robert Carlyle as DCS Dave Cook, Rose Leslie, Adrian Lester, Katherine Kelly, Kevin Doyle, Neil Maskell, Lara Pulver, Lee Ingleby, Pip Torrens, Lisa McGrillis and Sean Pertwee.<\/p>\n

An official synopsis reads: “Set between 2002 and 2012, the drama deftly interweaves two real-life stories, the work of investigative journalist Nick Davies, played by David Tennant, who uncovered evidence of phone hacking at the News of the World.<\/p>\n

The series<\/a>, which has been co-written by Adolescence writer Jack Thorne, was described as “important” by ITV by Director of Drama Polly Hill, who described the ensemble cast as “incredible” (via ITV<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The Hack <\/strong>will air on ITV and STV in the autumn.<\/strong><\/p>\n
