{"id":284616,"date":"2026-01-14T21:51:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T21:51:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/284616\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T21:51:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T21:51:14","slug":"proportion-of-young-hongkongers-owning-subsidised-flats-halves-in-30-years-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/284616\/","title":{"rendered":"Proportion of young Hongkongers owning subsidised flats halves in 30 years: study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Hong Kong\u2019s young adults are being pushed off the housing ladder, with the proportion of subsidised homeowners aged 30 to 39 nearly halving to 16 per cent over the past three decades, and a mid-sized private flat now costing more than 18 years of an average household\u2019s combined income, a study shows.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The \u201cHong Kong Economic Policy Green Paper 2026\u201d, released by the University of Hong Kong Business School on Wednesday, highlighted a long-term shift in Hong Kong\u2019s housing landscape.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Overall home ownership rose from 34 to 54.1 per cent between 1985 and 2002, driven by gains in both private and public housing.
