Liveline host Kieran Cuddihy<\/a> recalled being in a \u201cstate of shock\u201d after coming across the scene of a fatal road collision which claimed the life of Brazilian carer Josilaine Ribeiro.<\/p>\n

Ms Ribeiro, who was 36, was cycling an e-bike when she was struck by a truck on Dolphin\u2019s Barn bridge in Dublin on November 6th, 2023.<\/p>\n

The RT\u00c9<\/a> broadcaster revealed on Liveline on Wednesday that he witnessed the collision while driving towards the city centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was the very first person on the scene, and it was a horrific scene,\u201d he said. \u201cI got down on my hands and knees, and she was on the road, and she didn\u2019t respond to any of my calls.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unable to find a pulse, Mr Cuddihy said the car behind him was being driven by a doctor who immediately came to Ms Ribeiro\u2019s side and began to perform CPR until emergency services arrived.<\/p>\n

Ms Ribeiro was taken to the nearby St James\u2019s Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmidst the aftermath of this horrific incident, I was probably in a slight state of shock, my hands were probably shaking a little bit, and I had a vacant stare,\u201d he said, though it was the quick actions of the doctor that \u201cstuck in my mind\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ms Ribeiro\u2019s family called for road safety improvements in Dublin<\/a> following her death, saying she \u201cpaid with her life\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is our deepest desire that her sacrifice helps the Dublin population to have better and safer roads,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Liveline on Thursday, Ms Ribeiro\u2019s ex-husband, Christian Velasco, said her family have been \u201cdestroyed\u201d following her death.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer family is devastated. They will never be the same again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Recalling being told of his ex-wife\u2019s death, he said it was the \u201cworst that I have felt in my entire life\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not easy to see the person that you love, hugging her at the airport and saying: \u2018Have a good life\u2019, and then having to see her come back in a coffin,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Velasco described Ms Ribeiro, to whom he had been married to for 11 years before they divorced, as an \u201camazing human being\u201d who was \u201clooking for a better future for herself\u201d when she moved to Dublin.<\/p>\n

He said she was \u201cloved by the people she worked with, by the people she took care of\u201d.<\/p>\n

Brendan Swan, whose wife Ms Ribeiro cared for, said she left his house about 15 minutes before the fatal collision, which occurred at about 12.30pm.<\/p>\n

He said Ms Ribeiro helped his wife Anne \u201cevery way she could\u201d and \u201cmade her life worthwhile\u201d, before recalling her \u201cdancing\u201d with his wife.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe made my wife so happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anne died 12 days after Ms Ribeiro, he said, describing it as a \u201cdouble loss\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe regarded Josie as a daughter to us,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ll never forget the kindness of that girl.\u201d<\/p>\n
