Another cold snap is forecast within weeks, with weather maps showing potential for snow to fall as temperatures plunge below freezing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.corkbeo.ie\/all-about\/weather\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"freezing cold snapLink opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">freezing cold snap<\/a> that welcomed into the new year with icy roads, frosty mornings and even snow across parts of the country has subsided and temperatures have returned to more tolerable conditions. But another chilly change is forecast for the last week of January as a very cold weather front moves in.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/611420365_1544178233486422_6698059429285785947_n.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Snow in Millstreet on January 4\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Snow in Millstreet on January 4(Image: Olga Firek)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">According to Met \u00c9ireann&#8217;s monthly forecast update, which was updated yesterday, &#8220;a cool or cold easterly airflow is likely to dominate&#8221; between Monday 26 January and Sunday 1 February, &#8220;bringing below average temperatures across the country.&#8221; The weather experts add: &#8220;Given the time of year and below average temperatures, there is the possibility of wintry precipitation at times.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Meanwhile weather mapping service WXCharts latest radars for that week show the potential for centimetres of snow or sleet to fall across the western half of Ireland, including parts of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.corkbeo.ie\/all-about\/munster\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Cork, Limerick, Clare,Link opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Cork, Limerick, Clare,<\/a> Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal on Wednesday January 28.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CarlowWeather\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Alan O&#8217;Reilly of Carlow Weather<\/a> has suggested that there is &#8220;very little (to) support&#8221; any fears of a major, country-covering snow event as long-range forecasting is notoriously subject to change and difficult to predict, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dublinlive.ie\/news\/dublin-news\/ireland-weather-beast-east-2026-33225547\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Dublin Live reportsLink opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Dublin Live reports<\/a>. He said: &#8220;Few messages asking about chances of a beast from the East, the GFS model in the long range has certainly thrown out some interesting charts but before anyone gets excited or worried the ensembles show it has very little support so chances remain low and ECM model very different!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/0_Screenshot-2026-01-14-at-142020.png\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Snow predictions for Saturday morning (Jan 17)\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Snow predictions for Saturday morning (Jan 17)(Image: WXCharts)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Before then, the same weather charting service shows some slight indication of potential wintry precipitation on the morning of Saturday 17 this weekend for parts of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.corkbeo.ie\/all-about\/east-cork\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"East CorkLink opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">East Cork<\/a>. However according to Met \u00c9ireann&#8217;s long-range outlook, it is less likely, as the forecast suggests it &#8220;will be dry for many with isolated showers or light rain and drizzle mainly affecting southern and eastern coastal areas&#8221; with highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees with a light easterly or variable breeze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Meanwhile next week, &#8220;temperatures will likely be around normal overall but could fluctuate through the week.
