It is nonetheless seen as an important boost to an outlet\u2019s reputation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/food\/restaurants\/review\/2026\/01\/15\/the-old-spot-restaurant-review-this-cosy-corner-of-dublin-4-is-doing-sunday-lunch-right\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/food\/restaurants\/review\/2026\/01\/15\/the-old-spot-restaurant-review-this-cosy-corner-of-dublin-4-is-doing-sunday-lunch-right\/\">The Old Spot<\/a> on Bath Avenue, Dublin 4, inspectors found a pub that ticks all the boxes \u2013 \u201ctraditional, immensely satisfying food; a buzzing atmosphere; and some of the friendliest, most genuine service around\u201d. They highlighted desserts, particularly \u201cthe excellently crafted bread and butter pudding\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Our restaurant critic, Corinna Hardgrave, was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/food\/restaurants\/review\/2026\/01\/15\/the-old-spot-restaurant-review-this-cosy-corner-of-dublin-4-is-doing-sunday-lunch-right\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/food\/restaurants\/review\/2026\/01\/15\/the-old-spot-restaurant-review-this-cosy-corner-of-dublin-4-is-doing-sunday-lunch-right\/\">impressed by The Old Spot<\/a> over recent weeks, describing it as having a \u201cwonderful, cosy neighbourhood feel\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Also in Dublin, inspectors said diners should keep an eye out for the discrete entrance to Richie Castillo-led, Irish-Filipino restaurant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/food\/restaurants\/review\/2025\/01\/09\/press-ups-kaldero-a-dining-experience-that-feels-more-like-being-fed-by-an-accountant-than-a-chef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/food\/restaurants\/review\/2025\/01\/09\/press-ups-kaldero-a-dining-experience-that-feels-more-like-being-fed-by-an-accountant-than-a-chef\/\">Kaldero<\/a> beneath the Stephen\u2019s Green Shopping Centre, because \u201cto miss its warm atmosphere and flavour-packed cooking would be a crying shame\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Chefs Richie Castillo, Daren Liew and Alfred Prasad designed the Filipino, Chinese and Indian menus for Kaldero restaurant on South King Street.\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/6XVHPGE2SJE5FHXHFEUVSFCBME.jpg\"   width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/>Chefs Richie Castillo, Daren Liew and Alfred Prasad designed the Filipino, Chinese and Indian menus for Kaldero restaurant on South King Street. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">They noted the \u201cinfectious buzz\u201d of the chefs and highlighted \u201cbig, punchy flavours\u201d in dishes such as \u201cDynamite Lumpia\u201d \u2013 chillis stuffed with pork mince.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In Galway, inspectors enjoyed Blackthorn in The Twelve Hotel in Barna, where they dined in \u201ca bright, airy spot with a Nordic influence\u201d. Blackthorn is filled with \u201cwonderful smoky aromas\u201d from seasonal ingredients being grilled over charcoal, they said, namechecking dishes such as pheasant with cavolo nero and whole black sole with brown butter and capers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Blackthorn in Barna, Co Galway.
