{"id":287665,"date":"2026-01-16T14:36:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T14:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/287665\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T14:36:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T14:36:09","slug":"a-little-over-the-top-but-it-makes-a-statement-says-commenter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/287665\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;A little over the top but it makes a statement&#8221; says commenter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this week&#8217;s comments update, readers are discussing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/01\/14\/mvrdv-tiffany-co-flagship-beijing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tiffany &amp; Co&#8217;s flagship store in Beijing<\/a>, designed by Dutch studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/MVRDV\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MVRDV<\/a> with a curving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/glass\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">glass<\/a> facade.<\/p>\n<p>Crafted from translucent, frosted glass fins in an icy blue hue, the store&#8217;s 20-metre-high facade was\u00a0intended to pay homage to jewellery created by Italian designer Elsa Peretti for the brand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/01\/14\/mvrdv-tiffany-co-flagship-beijing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2287363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/tiffany-co-beijing-mvrdv-glass-architecture-china-retail-flagship_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x1136-1.jpg\" alt=\"Tiffany Co flagship store Beijing glass\" width=\"852\" height=\"1136\"  \/><\/a>MVRDV drapes glass veil around Tiffany &amp; Co flagship in Beijing<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;An elegant and carefully considered architectural gesture&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Commenters were conflicted.\u00a0Of the few commenters to praise the project, <a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/34uh4xx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Hassler<\/a> called the store design &#8220;beautiful&#8221;, while <a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/34uqo2g\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Institute of Urban Technology<\/a> thought &#8220;this feels like an elegant and carefully considered architectural gesture.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Perhaps a little over the top but it makes a statement, that&#8217;s for sure,&#8221; contributed <a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/34uqr6k\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John-in-Melbourne<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But other commenters took a less favourable view. &#8220;Yet another dull, undulating glass facade for a luxury brand,&#8221; determined <a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/34umb4a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Davvid<\/a>. &#8220;There are too many logos and the interior looks like a banal department store,&#8221; they argued.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/34ul0wr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Weetbix<\/a> was similarly cynical. &#8220;On the right side of the main shot, one can see the edge of the just-finished Louis Vuitton flagship store \u2013 it deploys the exact same concept of wrapping an existing building in a pseudo-organic, fancy looking second skin,&#8221; they wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this point, this concept is not a concept anymore but a luxury fast-food get-it-done manual,&#8221; they argued.<\/p>\n<p>What are your thoughts on the Tiffany &amp; Co Beijing flagship?
